Just some context here: The Spirit's Pride Night was in August last year when there was no June home game, and that will be the case again this year.

Not sure what's up on the back end, but it feels easy to put two themes together to clear a game for a Black community celebration.

This team prides itself upon celebrating its fans… well that’s all we are asking them to do. Celebrate us on one night! You should want to celebrate us and not because we had to bully you into it. You should do it because it’s important and your fans culture matters to you.

We as black and brown people should not have to get on this internet and yell to get our FO’s attention to do the bare minimum and something they have done before! To celebrate us, the very fans who week in and week out show up to games and root for this team.

This is the last thing I’m going to say about this:

You had a Black centric theme night for a couple of years that was well programmed and received. Given the climate we live, to actively decide not to do it or replicate it elsewhere, communicates a specific message - intended or unintended.

We stand with our friends @roseroomco.bsky.social and urge the @washingtonspirit.com to reconsider their decision to not host a game celebrating the Black DMV community, especially in a time when its needed most.
