Of course I'm worried about socialism. I mean, just imagine if Mamdani one day becomes President and nationalizes industry, imposes historic tax hikes, goes after the media, builds a secret national police force, militarizes the country, and sends people to camps.

In fairness, I have no real idea what Garland was up against, and I am playing Monday morning quarterback a bit here. He did appoint Jack Smith, who seemed inclined to move quickly and efficiently, but even that was too late.

But, it's hard not to feel like Garland let us down.

I remember, in 2022, wishing that Biden would replace Garland with someone like Letitia James and send Garland back to the bench. Ms. James likely would not have made it through a senate confirmation, so my expectations were a bit too high. Still, Garland was the wrong person.

Sarah Kendzior, authoritarian scholar, debunked this fan fiction numerous times.

At best, Garland acted too slowly in an effort to appear apolitical. At worst, he had no intention of seeing the investigation through, because that was never the plan.

Merrick Garland continues to get a pass, but with each passing day, I realize more and more how badly he failed us. He was also not the hero people have made him out to be. He's been touted as the lead on the OKC bombing investigation that bravely brought the perpetrators to justice.

Honestly kind of surprised not to see this in the NYT.

Addendum: still not announcing this on LinkedIn. It'd be much more embarrassing to have to retract everything there than here. Here, I can rage against evil corporations more freely. No one really knows me here, but on there, the stakes feel much higher.

I'm not going to offer toxic positivity or clichés about the right opportunity being out there. None of that was helpful to me. All I can say is that it's been hard and demoralizing. I kept at it, and eventually found the right opportunity. I'm pulling for everyone out there right now.

Over the past nine months, I've struggled deeply with self-confidence. Impostor syndrome has been off the charts, and a bad interview in August (completely of my own doing) broke me for a couple of months.

It's hard out there for jobseekers. As a software engineer, I've been fortunate over the past 20 years to find jobs fairly quickly, but this is the longest I've ever spent unemployed.

I've been anxious about things falling through at the last minute, so have been quiet about this. However, at this point, a week after signing my offer letter and submitting for a background check, I feel a bit safer announcing it.

After being employed since January 15th of this year, I start a new job next Monday. It took me nine months and 15 days of job hunting to finally land an offer. After all that time, much of it still feels surreal.

I wish I could show you all the joyous photos and videos being shared on Muslim and South Asian WhatsApp right now with people reacting to Mamdani's victory.

It's really beautiful and cathartic.

So many years of anti-Muslim bigotry, racism & hate.

And all those tears are now sugar for our chai.

Last night offered some real glimmers of hope, but I can't see what George and Neera see just yet. If pro-Democracy forces overcome Fascist cheating in 2026 and are sworn in to congress in January 2027, my vision may improve.

The last month of the anti-Mamdani campaign was an absolutely shameful undertaking, an attempt to rip the city and Democratic coalition apart and I'm very happy to see it failed.
