Winston Churchill is a tad over rated.

The best. I’m particularly fond of a lesser known tune the Coffee Song.

Went to see the Samurai exhibition at the British Museum today. Was pleased to see a strong equine presence among the exhibits, including this beautiful saddle tree and stirrups. It was thoughtfully curated with a great mix of artefacts and tech to build the atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend.

Proof, if ever it was needed, that the phrase β€˜special relationship’ should be confined to the annals of history. The UK needs to wake up to the mythology surrounding its relationship with the U.S. and ditch sentimentalism for pragmatism. Basically, if it ain’t serving you - bin it off.

Yes his lyrics are under rated.

Oh man, that must’ve been fantastic. So many 70s bands I wish I’d seen.

Been listening to Thin Lizzy today. Phil Lynott was just brilliant.

Great plan. They obviously don’t have a problem with a lack of human rights.

There's a lot of mean-spiritedness about people who have gone to live in Dubai. We need to help, and ensure they have secure accommodation in the UK for 91 days of the next tax year.

Some days my intellectual capacity for war studies leaves the room and I just think β€˜fuck all these people’

Men and egos and religion and war. An exhausting, never ending cycle.

This isn’t a sentimental story about loyalty.
It’s about operational impact.

That refusal protected vital ammunition, preserved mobility, and forced a change of route. It altered the tempo of movement. 3/3

Forrester, a blacksmith by trade, trusted the animal. He knew there must be a reason. He went forward to investigate.

The bridge ahead had been blown.
Seventy years later, he still remembered the mule’s number: 141. 2/3

In an interview about his First World War service, Corporal Harry Forrester of the Royal Field Artillery recalled a mule that refused to cross a bridge while pulling an ammunition limber. The driver beat it for stopping. 1/3

There’s a whole lot of opinions out there today; a friendly reminder that you do not have to listen to/read them.

Here’s my silly dog at the top of a mountain.

Quite. However, I don’t think there’s ever been much love lost between the US Allied Sunni emirates and Iran, plus, UAE, Bahrain, Jordan all let US use their naval ports/air bases. Therefore, I can see that in Iran’s eyes, these attacks are not exactly indiscriminate.

Wonder how this is panning out for all those people who go on and on about how moving to Dubai is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I am biased because @sarahloumiller.bsky.social is a great pal, but her work on women in intelligence is particularly fabulous IMO. I know she is working on some really exciting projects at the moment πŸ‘€ 🀫

Managed to go for a gentle ride in the school. Maxy moo was very good. He is super stiff in his back at the moment from an old injury, this long wet winter hasn’t helped.

The magic lantern dispatch newsletter along with a photo by Ernest Brooks of a statue of Mary in a ruined church in Hervilly. A postcard of an artillery unit and a sticker with the caption "lean into it" with the leaning virgin of Albert.

Received my first packet from the magic lantern mail club today! Carla-Jean is a magnificent historian and the cherry on top was the "Lean into it" sticker with the golden virgin of Albert. If you know, you know! πŸ—ƒοΈ #cdnhist
