Frosted Foods Tested in Longmeadow- 1930!

#OTD- On This Day, March 6, 1930- BIRDS EYE frozen foods were introduced to the market and sold at the Thrift Stores in #Springfield, #MA and #Longmeadow, MA! It was 95 years ago.

Today, when one thinks of #maple, they usually think of maple syrup poured over fresh pancakes or waffles, but in early 19th century #NewEngland, maple sugar was the ultimate goal. Syrup would grow mold easily, and therefore, most maple sap was boiled down into sugar, which would last much longer.

Next Saturday- March 1st- celebrate the Dr. Seuss Birthday Party at the Springfield Museums in Springfield, MA!

"The Great Altantic Coast Blizzard"- February 1899

In 1899- the day before Valentine's Day snow began falling in our area and the thermometer readings dipped into the single digits! "The Great Atlantic Coast Blizzard" had begun.

Jonathan Hale Goldthwait was an accomplished map engraver of the early 19th century. His 1831 #map of #Longmeadow (West + East Villages) was one of the earliest maps of this area and is still used today as a reliable resource for local historians. #MA #WesternMA #Springfield

690 Longmeadow St. is one of the oldest houses in #Longmeadow, #MA! It has survived > 300 years with many different owners. One resident was local artist Peggy Lette Godfrey. She painted this house for the cover of the 1970 Longmeadow Annual Town Report.
