Roman Catholic priests only recieved church permission to wear suits with clerical collars AFTER it became common for Protestant clergy in the U.S.
The tonsure only disappeared for similar similar reasons among average Catholic priests in Protestant dominant areas.
And, the outward signal was important because it determined which laws someone was subject, too, since Christian and Islamic societies both expected the Church to largely regulate clergy and in exchange the state gave special rights and privileges to clerics.
It was more complex than identity.
For most of history, it was haircut that was the most common way to recognize a priest (and all other levels of clergy).
It wasn't just monks who recieved the "tonsure" it was all men who were in the "clerical state."
In both the Catholic/Orthodox and Catholic/Protestant historical contexts, it wasn't the clerical collar itself that was most important aspect, it was the overall tailoring of the full-length cassock.

This is pretty fascinating ...
I have come across quite a few folks who complain about the diverse array of ministers wearing clerical shirts at protests recently.
Their argument has been claiming the ministers are trying to use Catholic symbolism to legitimize themselves.
This post is accurate:
A competent president would (1) not have started an illegal action after being egged on by Saudi Arabia; and (2) would, anyway, have known if our (formerly) closest ally would support us beforehand.
Alas, we don't have a competent president. Not even close.
Rubio: โThe imminent threat was that we knew that if Iran was attacked, and we believed they would be attacked, that they would immediately come after us.โ
These people are morons and they think we are even bigger morons.

The Epstein cover-up is starting to crack, but Pam Bondi is still stonewalling. This is the biggest scandal in modern history, and it's being buried.
Congress: Do your job. Demand the full release NOW.

Just imagine if Michelle Obama had presided after President Obama launched his attack on Osama Bin Laden.
And yet here we are with a former *escort* sitting in the seat of power.
Most European colonists to North America came for financial reasons, which includes opportunities possible because of religious and political freedom.
The Pilgrims' story is a very small part of America's founding even if later Puritans and the Great Awakenings emphasized it.
We also can't forget that William Penn founded his colony explicitly in Quaker beliefs. And, Lord Baltimore was trying to make Maryland a colony for Catholics.
The religious beliefs of these Founding Fathers are not compatible with Christian Nationalism!

Don't forget that a number of Founding Fathers were formally members of the Unitarian Church or held distinctly "deist" theological views while being members of Anglican and Congregationalist Churches.
