Finally was able to listen to this podcast yesterday, and it's fantastic!
The transition will not occur in straight, smooth lines.

Today on Volts: for the next few decades, we'll be in the "mid-transition," with clean energy systems growing as FF systems decline. Those FF systems will not decline smoothly -- there will be thresholds, "cliffs," where they suddenly crumble -- so maybe we should, I dunno, plan for it?

March 8, 2026 - Tehran at sunrise today. But the sun is hidden behind a sky filled with smoke. After a night of intensive strikes on oil facilities, thick black clouds now hang over the city, turning morning into something that feels like night.

Smith says she's cutting access to social support programs because she "heard that people were moving here just to be on social programs."
This sort of hearsay framing is a dangerous rhetorical device employed by populists. Consider Donald Trump. +

Useful report for Canadian policymakers.
"Canadaβs mix of industrial carbon pricing systems has largely been effective. A common fed benchmark provides coherence, while prov tailoring supports competitiveness. At the same time, design differences can fragment markets and blur carbon price signals."

"the project would include 10x140MW gas plants, each running on 2x 50MW gas turbines and 1x 140MW heat-recovery steam generator to capture waste heat and increase efficiency. The plant will also have 600 emergency back-up diesel generators in case of power loss."
