Do you think this “over-diagnosis” nonsense happened with left-handedness? Or with dyslexia? Just because heaps of people had _up until now_ been unidentified, and society was still playing catch up?

17.03.2025 15:14 — 👍 22 🔁 9 💬 0 📌 2A screenshot from the Times newspaper reads: “Research by Professor Stephen Faraone, president of the World Federation of ADHD, suggests global rates of ADHD are at about 5 per cent for children, and between 2 and 3 per cent among adults, depending on age. In Britain, that equates to 1.6 million adults and 700,000 children: 2.3 million people. However, with only about 248,000 patients receiving ADHD medication on the NHS, it suggests the condition may be being underdiagnosed.”
Hmmm - a change of heart at the Times re: ADHD? I’ve been banging on about this particular point re “over diagnosis” (spoiler: there isn’t any) for ages. A very balanced and thoughtful article…
