"They want me to hide or leave or disappear"
Republicans invalided Avery Rowland’s drivers license, along with hundreds of other transgender Kansans. Here’s how she’s fighting back.
“They want me to hide or leave or disappear, not to be visible and active in public society."
A new Kansas law went into effect this week that invalidates preexisting IDs with gender markers that do not match someone’s sex assigned at birth.

Kansas informs trans residents their driver’s licenses become invalid on Thursday
Some transgender Kansans said they had received the letters from the Department of Revenue. Others hadn’t by Wednesday evening.
“‘The persecution is the point,’ said Rep. Abi Boatman, a Wichita Democrat and the only transgender member of the Legislature, who received the [Kansas Dept of Revenue] notice on Wednesday.” To underscore that: a Kansas state legislator is among those whose driver’s license will be voided. To do this, anti-trans lawmakers in Kansas moved fast to change the law, overrode the governor’s veto, and pushed for the legal changes to go into effect nearly immediately. That kind of power—to void gender on official documents, to compel gender conformity—is terrifying and it will not stop here.

the "just asking questions" to "legitimate questions about fairness in sports" to "the state doesn't have to consider us as real people" pipeline working exactly as designed.

it's 2016: north carolina introduces a bill to ban trans people from using bathrooms safely. there's a national outcry; companies withdraw business up to and including the NCAA cancelling a publicized game. the bill fails.
it's 2026: kansas passes a law nullifying trans people's licenses. crickets.

My point is that the people who accuse the left (and specifically trans people) of “weaponizing identity” regularly weaponize identity in ways that are actually harmful.

It’s asinine to dismiss trans people’s concerns as frivolous identity politics. What could possibly be more kitchen table than “don’t legislate us from existence”?

We’re watching Jasmine Crockett run an identity centered campaign against an opponent to her left.
Both Sotomayor and Ginsberg used identity as a cudgel against their leftist critics telling them to retire.
Leftists want to talk issues. Liberals want to talk about how the left doesn’t talk issues.

And WHO are they talking about specifically? Because I don’t think any real thought leader in the party talks in the terms he’s pushing against.
