(1/4) The Government of Ontario has been interfering systemically and structurally with the Laurentian University Faculty Association’s free and fair collective bargaining rights.

We are happy to announce that SMU PT Faculty members have ratified the Tentative Agreement. Members will return to work and classes will resume on Monday.

Today, OCUFA is meeting with Ontario MPPs to discuss the serious threats facing our education sector. Ontario provides its universities with the lowest amount of total provincial funding per-domestic full-time equivalent (FTE) student in Canada, and it’s not close.

OCUFA is committed to enhancing the quality of higher public education in Ontario and recognizing the outstanding contributions of our members towards creating a world-class university system. An important part of that work is effective advocacy.

Grâce à une action collective, le personnel enseignant et les étudiants ont réussi à protéger les investissements prévus dans le budget 2024 pour les étudiants diplômés et les chercheurs postdoctoraux.

L'analyse complète du budget par l'ACPPU sera disponible plus tard cette semaine.

Sans financement de base, le fonds de recrutement de talents internationaux, doté de 1,7 milliard de dollars, accueillera des chercheurs internationaux dans un système en crise où d'importants projets de recherche canadiens ne sont pas financés.

Alors que les universités et les collèges réduisent leurs programmes universitaires, ferment des programmes et suppriment plus de 13 000 emplois, le budget 2025 réduit de moitié les inscriptions d'étudiants internationaux sans augmenter le financement de base.

Through collective action, academic staff and students successfully protected Budget 2024 investments in graduate student and post-doctoral researchers.

CAUT’s full budget analysis will be available later this week.

Without core funding, the $1.7B international talent recruitment fund will welcome international researchers to a system in crisis where important Canadian research projects are unfunded.

As universities and colleges cut academic programs, close programs, and slash 13,000+ jobs, Budget 2025 halves international student enrolment without boosting core funding.
