At this point, let it dry for about a day before varnishing it to seal the effect in. Once the varnish cures, you can handle it freely.

Step 4: While the oil paint is still wet and gunky, use a stiff bristle brush (I used an old tooth brush) to brush down the part in the direction of the grain you sanded earlier. This will scrape off most of the paint; leaving wood grain streaks along the part.

Step 3: Oil Paint. I used a Burnt Umber, thinned it down to the point where it was a little loose but not down to wash consistency and roughly slathered it all over the part. You can be messy here.

Step 2 is base color. I used a color primer to save steps. You want a light color for the highlights. A pale yellow, light buff, or even a light desaturated green or orange could work depending on the type of wood you’re going for.

Step 1 is to rough up the plastic with coarse sanding paper or sponges. Rougher the better. I used 180 grit here. It’s important to keep the scratches going one direction because you’re simulating wood grain.

I’ve been asked to write up a quick guide on how I painted this wood effect so I’m going to try to make a reply thread of the steps I used.

In lieu of the PGnU announcement: a build from last year! Took me just over a year to compete the PGU RX-78. Inner frame was fully painted with hand painted details.

There were over 100 characters submitted for my birthday stream, thank you all so much! My mod is going through the list and removing any repeats or not twitch safe outfits, and then we're picking 35-50 characters and saving the rest for a potential part 2!

Realized I never finished coming up with a proper backpack connector system for the wings on this kitbash. I cut the pegs off the side of the Livelance backpack and cemented wings on, then cut the inner peg for the back plate and drilled out the center hole to make an adaptor for the action base.

For this one, it believe it’s just characters from anime, cartoons, & videogames.

A little taste of the upcoming. May or may not be my next paint project. I haven’t decided yet.

It was an accurate depiction of the key moment of the stream! I swear!
