Unfortunately I think the walking away was ~90% adrenaline.

The car was on shattuck, the bike was on channing.

And it wasn't one of those corner clips -- the bike made it to the far half of the intersection before they were hit!

Car ran a red light on shattuck in downtown #Berkeley & full on hit a cyclist. The cyclist, their bike, & all their stuff was strewn across the intersection. The driver took off! Luckily the bicyclist walked away. Cops seemed to take it seriously.

Two of the most common climate misconceptions I see, even among knowledgeable folks, are that (1) most people aren't worried about climate change, and (2) if they were, they'd act.

Not true! Data show (1) most people are worried, but (2) they won’t act if they don’t know what to do-and most don’t.

People complaining that they haven't been able to "build an audience" here ... but their history shows they almost never engage with anyone.

When talking to science folks interested in using bluesky, I always point out it takes ++ work because you have to actively reach out & connect with people.

This is sure to be good! And the topic is all too timely. ⚒️

NOAA has an updated water cycle diagram? I like that they keep it simple.

But that groundwater diagram will perpetuate common misunderstandings. And it fails to show that groundwater/surface-water exchange goes both ways, particularly important with climate change. ⚒️

In terms of BLM and USFS, I am specifically looking for non-fed lands due to the likely ongoing-for-quite-awhile shutdown.

I was in a group discussion of ~30 folks recently sharing ideas, and two people got into an increasingly heated values disagreement.

The facilitator finally stepped in strongly but gracefully & respectfully and steered the group back to the exercise. Watching those high-level skills in action was 🌟

I haven't read or listened much to Goodall over the years (for no particular reason), so I was utterly unprepared for the love, peace, caring, and jettison the despots into space on a one-way rocket trip.

When I first moved to the area, I was living in SF during my first election/voting. I was completely baffled & confused when I got the equivalent of a small phone book of ballot measures to study. I'd never seen anything so involved before.

Eastern Oregon is beautiful, but it's also probably the area of the US I've felt most unsafe in. And that was in the Bundy era, before the current administration started openly calling for violence.

Started researching state park options as a backup plan for a bunch of travel I have coming up, especially camping options. California has a lot of state parks! This might be my year for finally exploring more of them. Glad I picked up an annual pass.

Also started looking at Oregon & Nevada parks.

They're literally creating their own PR videos documenting their violence & crimes.

Another example of the glorification of militia-style fashion & violence, as if it were a video game or music video, intent on dehumanizing our neighbors.

And where the hell are our other federal elected officials?
