07.10.2025 02:00 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The car was on shattuck, the bike was on channing.
And it wasn't one of those corner clips -- the bike made it to the far half of the intersection before they were hit!
Car ran a red light on shattuck in downtown #Berkeley & full on hit a cyclist. The cyclist, their bike, & all their stuff was strewn across the intersection. The driver took off! Luckily the bicyclist walked away. Cops seemed to take it seriously.

A map of the world showing how levels of worry in most countries are greater than 70%. Source: Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, International Public Opinion on Climate Change, 2023.
Two of the most common climate misconceptions I see, even among knowledgeable folks, are that (1) most people aren't worried about climate change, and (2) if they were, they'd act.
Not true! Data show (1) most people are worried, but (2) they wonβt act if they donβt know what to do-and most donβt.
People complaining that they haven't been able to "build an audience" here ... but their history shows they almost never engage with anyone.
When talking to science folks interested in using bluesky, I always point out it takes ++ work because you have to actively reach out & connect with people.
This is sure to be good! And the topic is all too timely. βοΈ

Water cycle diagram, showing many different concepts, such as evaporation, precipitation, condensation, transpiration, runoff, deposition, and more. Groundwater is shown as a river-like thick blue line moving through the ground.
NOAA has an updated water cycle diagram? I like that they keep it simple.
But that groundwater diagram will perpetuate common misunderstandings. And it fails to show that groundwater/surface-water exchange goes both ways, particularly important with climate change. βοΈ

It does because I think there are ethical issues and safety issues with staying on federal land during a shutdown.

Almost Monday! Which means wrapping up my last few days at my current job.
Not sure what is next on the job front, given how my entire profession has been decimated. But I do know that with this admin's anti-trans policies, I'll be looking outside the federal space for the first time in decades.

In terms of BLM and USFS, I am specifically looking for non-fed lands due to the likely ongoing-for-quite-awhile shutdown.

Also started looking at Oregon & Nevada parks.
They're literally creating their own PR videos documenting their violence & crimes.
Another example of the glorification of militia-style fashion & violence, as if it were a video game or music video, intent on dehumanizing our neighbors.
And where the hell are our other federal elected officials?
