Thank you! I am being reminded of how much eye fatigue there is with stitching pleats, heehee, but still hoping to finish them by Tuesday.

I make things with my hands incessantly, mostly textile but not always. Geriatric highland dancer. Healthcare worker. Often ranting about settler colonialism.

25.01.2025 12:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A mauve cotton ruffle collar, in the style of 16th century, with black linear embroidery as part of the smocking
A view of one of the completed side gores of the 16th century style shift, consisting of two isoceles triangles sewn together to make a larger triange, and then sewn into the side of the garment to create an A-line shape
A hand stitched light grey silk reinforcement is shown at the base of the neckline split, to make the opening more resistant to ripping.
A painting of a 16th century person wearing a straw hat, ruffled high collar shift, an Italian style black partlet, and what appears to be a pink and red silk gown. The person appears to be in a market, with apples and citrus fruit in thr background.
Current hand-sewing project - a riff on the 16th century shift/chemise, made with a thrifted mauve cotton bedsheet. Can we bring back the ruff??
Blackwork was common in this time for the collar, but I recently got a pleater, so smocking it is! And check out the neat rip-stop detail in silk.
I love the texture! I wish I could reach out and touch it.
P.S. give me strength to finish the very slow-going tapestry on my loom (lots of slow darning needle work in it), so I can move on to a project I'm more excited for
