I knew they hated education but I have to admit that I didn't realize they hated it THIS much

Also? This stuff is NOT NEW. Folks have been saying all of this for years, in some cases decades. We know these things! When will we change them?

The Future of Doctoral Education: What 70 Voices Told Us About Fixing the PhD Listening for the Future

Over the past six months, I've been consulting with ACLS on their Doctoral Futures project. Most of my work is behind the scenes by design, so it's a pleasure to see these write-ups from @treviene.bsky.social and Yajen reflecting on what we've been learning. medium.com/doctoral-fut... +

Came across this really cool paper that is cool for different reasons: (1) the paper itself, (2) the fact that the author ANNOTATED IT BY OVERLAYING IT WITH A COMIC.

I love how certain minds work.

Yuan-Sen Ting should be on bluesky, by the way.

In my experience with cbox-based platforms (KC as well as CUNY Academic Commons) I think it's totally doable, but there also needs to be collective will to proactively use it. That said I'm pretty far removed from both hastac and knowledge commons at this point so take w/ a grain of salt!

K12 educators and families are protesting this as well. There are SO many schools in dense nyc neighborhoods. The proposed buffer zones would make it almost impossible to protest in some areas, and would ramp up the likelihood of unnecessary nypd involvement

Unions, NYCLU Slam Bills That Would Grant Police More Power Over Protests at Schools The City Council heard testimony on Wednesday about the bill, which is part of a package that would also restrict protests at houses of worship.

College faculty unions and the New York Civil Liberties Union are turning up the heat in their opposition to a bill they say would greatly restrict the ability to protest or rally at schools and college campuses.

The Epstein files document what many women researchers have long experienced but rarely seen laid bare so starkly: exclusion operating behind closed doors, shaping who gets funded, invited, mentored, and taken seriously. How many of these networks, norms, and gatekeepers remain in place?

These discrepancies illustrate how a field of education with roots in eugenics, that developed on behalf of a small number of prodigies and brainiacs, became, in effect, a way to keep a critical mass of well-resourced families and their kids from leaving New York's often chaotic and threadbare schools. A 1979 New York magazine cover story speculated that some districts prioritize G. & T. "if for no other reason than to offer a lure to the white middle class." Nearly a half century

It’s gratifying to see this in print, but I think the point needed to be made more stronglyβ€”the at-scale gifted programs we have in New York City were openly and explicitly introduced to slow white flight, not solve a pedagogical problem

Yep. The market problem writ large is exceptionally true in highered. But it won’t matter β€” and doesn’t matter β€” to those in charge right now because the point is to strip the institution.

THE CAMPUS CRISIS TOOLKIT
Strategies and Solidarity for the Rest of Us
Edited by Lisa M. Di Bartolomeo and Kevin Gannon
February 20th, 2026 | CUNY Graduate Center

About The Campus Crisis Toolkit
New from SUNY Press, this is the first book to address campus crises that's by and for faculty, staff, and studentsβ€”the true heart of higher ed and the people who make it work.
The volume brings together more than forty contributors from colleges and universities across the United States and beyond. Essays address a range of aspects of the current polycrisis, including declarations of financial exigency, program closures and faculty layoffs, campus closures, political interference, and outbreaks of violence. Authors draw on their own experiencesβ€”and those of their colleagues and studentsβ€”to share what worked, what didn't, and what they learned along the way. If crisis hasn't come to your campus yet, don't worry, it will. When it does, this book will help.
Available March 1, 2026.
