Strong voices, well played, and then, in between songs they would banter, entirely…

And then between songs they would chat in German, not an Irish accent in sight.

Hot Beer At one of the many, many Weihnachtsmarkt in Dresden in December, this stall had a particular lure with its rising steam, dapper brewmeister, and a bit of pageantry. This shot would have been perfect, if only I had a slightly wider depth of field on it - I only noticed after I got the shot that the glasses and pouring weren't in focus - but it was my first proper outing with the new camera and I was still getting accustomed to how to use it. Still, I liked the vibe of the shot so much that I decided to keep it.

Macro Pathway One of the many many ultramacro photos taken of Adrianna Snochowska's art experiments for the cover of Nine Times by Ebauche - which was released very recently. This particular image didn't make the cut for the album, but I still loved the shapes and textures. It may not be immediately obvious as this is zoomed in extremely close, but those wispy textured lines that appear to be floating - they're actually the individual fibres from a piece of heavy grade artist's paper where the paper has been torn. Frame within a Frame Many fine works of art reside within the permanent collection of the Albertinum museum in Dresden, but this one particularly grabbed my eye, not just because of its wonderful rendition of forest solitude, but also the way in which it is revealed to you framed by the doorway of the previous room. It definitely invites closer inspection - and it is absolutely worth it. The painting is Waldeinsamkeit by Eduard Leonardi. Buy Print

Age verification vendor Persona left frontend exposed, researchers say

To demonstrate the privacy implications, researchers took a closer look and found a publicly exposed Persona frontend on a US government-authorized server, with 2,456 accessible files. You read that right. According to researcher "Celeste" the exposed code, which has now been removed, sat at a US government-authorized endpoint that appears to have been isolated from its regular work environment. In those files, the researchers found details about the extensive surveillance Persona software performs on its users. Beyond checking their age, the software performs 269 distinct verification checks, runs facial recognition against watchlists and politically exposed persons, screens "adverse media" across 14 categories (including terrorism and espionage), and assigns risk and similarity scores. Persona collects —and can retain for up to three years —IP addresses, browser and device fingerprints, government ID numbers, phone numbers, names, faces, plus a battery of "selfie" analytics like suspicious-entity detection, pose repeat detection, and age inconsistency checks.

According to The Rage, Discord has stated it will not continue to use Persona for age verification. However, other platforms reported to use Persona include: • Roblox: Uses Persona's facial age estimation and ID verification as the core of its "age checks to chat" system. • OpenAl / ChatGPT: OpenAl's help center explains that if you need to verify being 18+, "Persona is a trusted third-party company we use to help verify age," and that Persona may ask for a live selfie and/or government ID. • Lime: The ride-sharing service deploys custom age verification flows with Persona to meet each region's unique requirements. And despite the company & platforms claiming Persona utilised “zero knowledge” methodologies to verify age, they are gathering user data.

Juxtaposed I just love this cross section - a little cutout from a passing moment that could easily be walked past and not given two thoughts. But instead we get a strange array of shapes and textures, some natural and gnarled, others smooth and symmetrical - but with a slight roughness at the edges that echoes the natural textures. And the leaf shadow cast from out of frame onto that smooth and rough surface, fracturing those symmetrical lines, a moving, living indicator of the passage of time and our inexplicable position in the universe. Part of the Whole V An ultra-macro shot of a tiny part of a resin sculpture in the ABA Art Gallery in Mallorca, which was showing a collection of works by Adriana Meunié. It definitely reminds me of some of the experiments I made with macro photography exploring iced liquid mixes at various stages of thawing. In this case though, these elements are effectively frozen in time, and will not slowly dissolve and disintegrate. Buy Print
