Lone Swimmer A few weeks back we took a hike along a section of the "66 Lakes" walking route that runs around Berlin. It was a beautiful autumn day, but with a total summer feel. As the sun was starting to wind its way down to the horizon we stopped for one last swim at Petzinsee, just south of Potsdam. I was also delighted to spot Mark Ernestus free for a moment and took the opportunity to thank him profusely for all the listening joy his projects have brought me. His previous work with Rhythm & Sound has impacted me hugely, and I recommend it to anyone that hasn't experienced it.

Spent some time testing Action Launcher, Lawnchair, and Hyperion. All of them failed to live up to Nova 😔

Carnival Of Cultures 2025 Now that my Mallorca Mondays have wrapped up (for the time being), and given the drawing in of the days and the onset of autumn, I thought it apt to pick the annual Carnival of Cultures in Berlin as the new Monday theme. So tune in every Monday for the foreseeable future to get a vivid bright and colourful image to warm your soul. This year the Carnival relocated from its usual Hasenheide route and instead came to our new neighbourhood - marching straight down Frankfurter Allee.

Bougainvillea II Previously I've come across Bougainvillea in Sicily and Kenya. This one was spotted in Mallorca. It appears they do very well across the whole Mediterranean basin. However they originated in South America. You might think this flower has bright pink flowers, but in actual fact the flowers themselves are the very small and dainty looking element at the very centre. The pink things that look like flower petals are actually called bracts and are there to attract pollinators to the plant. Buy Print

Deep Blue, Moon With the sun going down, the sky was darkening, but the moon stood out bright and clear, radiating reflected light from our sun - a body in our solar system so massive that we really cannot truly comprehend it. Just to give you some sense of scale - you could theoretically fit 64 million earth moons into the sun. Next time you look at the moon, try to imagine 64 million of them packed closely together - now you've got a rough idea of how tiny we truly are!

Flamingo Reflections II The unmistakeable flamingo as it filters food from the water with that uniquely shaped beak, perfectly adapted to its particular niche. These particular birds were photographed at Tierpark in Berlin, where at least the flamingos appear to have a reasonably large area to roam around. Although as they have no net above, one can only assume they've either had their wings clipped or something attached to prevent them from flying away. Buy Print

Dronal and Mike IV @ BYOBB I was so utterly delighted to play a Dronal live set at BYOBB (Bring Your Own Beamer Berlin) in September with my friend Mike IV providing incredible visuals displayed on 3 x 10m tall screens. I do not think I've ever played with such huge projections! The entire night was a huge success and the crowds seemed fully entranced by all the incredible video art and music. It was a joy to work with the crew here and hopefully there will be more in the future!

Daylily A beautiful daylily blooming in Jelenin in Poland where we stayed for a week in summer 2024. I'm not exactly sure which species of daylily this is, and you'd want to be sure, as some are edible, and some are extremely poisonous! Apparently the name comes from the fact that with most daylilies the flowers only last for a single day. I wonder what the evolutionary process was that led to that specificity. Buy Print

Red Whiskered Bulbul The first time I encountered bulbul was in Kenya. I wasn't expecting to see them again back in Berlin, but whilst visiting Berlin's Tierpark this stunning spiky haired specimen popped its head out from behind their friend to check me out, and I couldn't be happier with the moment. The space was a fairly substantial indoor tropical area, and whilst it's obviously not ideal for wildlife to be confined like this, I will say it felt a lot better than some of the other spaces in Tierpark.
