I think the attention has been on rise of criminal incidents and repeat offenders, so just looking at number of offenders misses some of that?

Yessss I am a huge fan of e-bikes and think there should be more subsidies for people to switch to them.

As a climate reporter in Australia, where 1-in-3 homes have rooftop solar, I can say people here love stories about saving money on solar, electrification, EVs and how it all helps them. Batteries are taking off here now and it’s the same narrative.

I was on a bike behind an electric bus at the lights recently and it was so nice to not cop a lungful of fumes as the bus took off.

Super ambitious but Norway went from about 14% in 2014 to 97% today... with incredibly supportive policies and subsidies. They also didn't have the range of EVs compared to the market today. It ~could~ happen if the govt goes all-in on supporting them.

When you take out land use, Australia's climate trajectory looks very different.

How the government's 2035 climate targets stack up, according to experts After much anticipation, Australia has its new climate targets. Now that the dice have fallen, we consult experts on their assessment of how these targets stack up with what’s at stake.

How do experts rate Australia’s targets? How we’re tracking… and why Aust can’t bank on land use to cut emissions to 2035. My piece with @climateanalytics.org @frankjotzo.bsky.social and Climateworks’ Anna Skarbek.

For our house, induction is the last step and it's going to be a bit more expensive with new wiring and also much lower rebates, but worth it because now I'm spending less than $3 a month for gas and almost $30 on the connection.

I had the same reaction! Gas hot water switch was $1,200 and made a huge difference to our bills, switched an old gas wall heater and old split with 3 efficient splits and now use half the energy over winter. Rebates galore for each change.

China's green energy boom could spell the end of the fossil fuel age China has put its economic might behind renewable technologies in a desire to stop relying on imported fossil fuels.

Wrote last week about China's reasons for becoming the world's first electrostate (energy security, air pollution, economic boom, oh and climate) and how it's helping the whole world to kick fossil fuels: www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08...

The ABC sacked our colleague because of her political opinion and to appease a lobby group, the court found. And they spent more than $1 million on ridiculous defences including the she was never sacked and there is no such thing as a Lebanese race. Time for the ABC to rethink how it treats staff.

It's tough to overstate just how shockingly unusual an article like this is. Despite the fact that this is the response of the vast, vast majority of neighbours for both wind and solar farms, they are mostly erased from existence in coverage of attitudes of neighbours to utility-scale renewables

January 2025 was quite unexpectedly the warmest January on record at 1.75C above preindustrial, beating the prior record set in 2024.

This is despite the presence of La NiΓ±a conditions in the tropical Pacific, with the El NiΓ±o event of 2023/2024 long faded. www.theclimatebrink....
