The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Duval.
The COJ Warming Center will open tonight to provide shelter for those without access to adequate heat.

The Extreme Cold Task Force will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and collaborate with our homeless shelter partners, community organizations, faith-based partners, and safety net clinics and ensure those in need of respite have access to available resources.

Shelter Partners
We are in constant communication with our non-profit partners at area shelters that are providing weather shelter services to the homeless population.
Currently, there are no unmet needs, and no one has been turned away during the cold weather over the past week.

❄️The JTA will provide free rides to COJ Warming Centers on days determined to be Cold Weather Emergencies.
Residents utilizing the Centers should bring:
Air mattress/blankets/pillows other bedding
Snacks/medication
Games/toys/books
Hygiene/comfort items

Cold Weather Emergency has not been yet in as of December 8th 2024, so the COJ Warming Centers have not yet opened.

Should the above conditions be met during the day Monday to Saturday, Warming Centers will be activated during normal business hours at:

❄️❄️Cold Weather Advisory: temperatures or wind chills forecast to be at or less 25°F.
❄️❄️Extreme Cold Watch or Warning: temperatures or wind chills forecast to be at or below 15°F.

The threshold for initiating of Warming Centers will be met under the following conditions, as recommended by the National Weather Service (NWS):
❄️❄️When temps are expected to reach 27°F for 2 hours in the NWS Jax forecasts within 12 hours or the NWS issues
