Figure of 80
Quiet for moths as expected but did get peppered moth, figure of 80, miller + an, as yet, unidentified pug

Not great conditions with a strong wind and clear skies but I brought it all the way here so I may as well give it a try 🤞
We've just added a few more fantastic #preloved SWAROVSKI OPTIK Birding binoculars to our used equipment section. Check them out here: www.cleyspy.co.uk/product-cate... #UKBirding #BirdingGear

31.05.2025 19:32 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Superb visit to the Farnes as always.
Arctic terns are always the highlight on Inner Farne but the sheer variety of seabirds is so special.
Even managed to catch up with the now famous Maleider (mallard x eider hybrid) in Seahouses Harbour 🤣
I always say that 'rare birds breed rare birds' ie people going to see 1 bird often uncover other rares that probably wouldn't have been seen otherwise
29.05.2025 13:45 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0We've a brilliant new model available from Hawke, the Vantage 34mm.
Available in 8 and 10x magnification and weighing just over 400g, they start at just £139 and they're a fantastic entry-level binocular for birders both young & (ahem) more senior 😉😃.

Very cool to see all the emerging dragonflies through the thermal imager.
All the bright dots perched and flying are dragonflies
4 spot chaser dragonflies emerging
Really cool afternoon at North Warren yesterday.
2 bittern, cuckoo, garden warbler, Dartford warbler & woodlark on the heath.
Amazing to see a massive emergence of 4-spot chaser dragonflies & at least 4 hobbies hunting them at close range. Bit too fast for decent pics though

They are on privet in the pics but it's on willow too.
22.05.2025 17:07 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Nothing seen it as extensive as this before. It must be unusual as I saw it in the local media a couple of days ago

Sadly it wasn't enough to get my washing wet
Halloween Wonderland at the coast currently with all the ermine moth webs covering everything!!
Pretty spectacular

It's actually raining!!!
Last time is rained was about April 10th!
Stunning partially leucistic Ruddy Turnstone on the end of a wave-battered #Filey Brigg this afternoon - not the greatest camouflage for hiding in the Arctic tundra (where it's due to arrive shortly), but should be easy to track if and when it shows up elsewhere!

Been checking all the likely looking spots across the marsh for temmincks stints, following the recent influx locally, but with no luck
It was a surprise then to find one this morning in the unlikely location of an inland plastic-lined irrigation resevoir!
3 common sand present too

If you missed out on the last one, we've just added another excellent Swarovski Optik 8x32 EL SV to our used page: www.cleyspy.co.uk/product/used...

2 buff coloured cygnets, middle & left, known as 'Polish' colour morphs
For the 3rd year running the same pair of mute swans have produced a 'Polish' morph youngster.
This year, 2 of the 9 cygnets are buff coloured instead of the 'normal' grey

From one extreme to a other this week!
Lapwing parents struggling to keep their young chicks warm in a stiff North wind!
#birds
A very recently hatched brood of mallard photobombed by a swallow 🙂

Female lapwing calling to chicks
Lapwing chick hiding in long grass
Female lapwing with 3 chicks
4 very young redshank chicks
An excellent day of wader productivity monitoring on the marsh.
Despite the rapidly drying conditions, where there is still some water and cover, it was good to see lapwing and redshank young appearing.
Hopefully we'll get some rain soon to top everything up 🙏

If you hadn't already guessed the mystery chicks are stone curlews 🙂

2 day-old chicks in the pic, just shows how vulnerable they are!!
Nest has been monitored throughout the season to prevent disturbance and damage
Can you find & identify...

Definitely but at least they didn't play football with it like they have before 🤣
