Also, I'm dead serious here, trust your own enthusiasm. There are serotonin deserts in any creative outlet. Being a freak about the story you want to tell is the canteen you carry to get through them.

It's great value, and it's good to have games about love, relationships and such around in times like <gestures around>

But overall, when adapting a ttrpg system for kids, you start as simple as you can get, and then you add complexity when they look for it.

I've got a few systems that can do this out of box, but I don't think it's a design goal for most of what's on the market (my stuff included.)

Crucially, the die has to feel fair. And there has to be some give to that fairness (just as with an adult) because sometimes the kid's going to have an idea that's better and more interesting than the system allows.

But even then, Rodreel's fishing is a lot of back and forth and guessing and that's interesting (hopefully!) to an adult who's rolled a lot of d6s before, but a kid might get plenty of novelty out of just "you roll the die and it tells you whether you succeed."

In more seriousness, I think most systems I would abridge for a kid. *Especially* depending on age. A kid at twelve is different in interests and focus from a kid at ten, at eight, at five, etc.

Some systems require less abridging. In Rodreel you just hand Batman a fishing rod and a d6.
