Another more minor issue is acting choices that wouldn't be made in 2D that are easy to do in CG. in CG it's hard to put trace backs in for certain body parts like you could in 2D. I think you could be subconsciously picking up on that as well

It's usually one of two things: A camera move that is not typical of a 2D production, or something turning in space perfectly vs. the minor perspective issues that exist inherently in 2D.

I feel like there's a curse that whatever is the most promoted, inescapable thing at SDCC never does well. And I want this to do well more than anything

Does anyone storyboard/2d animate with blender and use a portable device to do it? The ConceptD 7 Ezel feels like the kind of set up I would want maybe, but are the standalone tablets from Huion or Wacom able to handle Blender?
