The Polregio 14WE is slowly becoming more common around KrakΓ³w, with this 2000s rebuild of the 1960s design being a fairly rare type of train around Poland (just 9 of them were converted)β¦
But I've got to say, those MASSIVE windows are going to be perfect for the scenery on the line to Zakopane! π
It's an incredibly civilised way to travel... π

Today, #LeoExpress has just launched services to Warsaw, Poland, with their fleet of black Stadler FLIRT units.
There's a lovely launch party here at Warszawa Wschodnia station for the first ever departure! π
And as the sun comes down, it's time for dinner at 203km/h in the WARS @diningcar.at. It's pierogi and cider for me this evening, enjoyed at high-speed! π

Heading up to Warsaw on the Express InterCity train, hauled by a SuperPeter locomotive! And I'm sitting in the super comfy Z1B-type compartment coach too. π
It's been a long time since I've taken a train journey in weather like this, safe to say I enjoyed the views...
Onwards to Budapest-Nyugati aboard a MΓV InterCity train, one of the services equipped with a mini-buffet counter, selling a few snacks and reheated meals. I've got the "Feta and Spinach pie", which was pretty nice, and is served piping hot!

Perhaps one of Europe's least-used international trains, the regional service from Oradea to PΓΌspΓΆkladΓ‘ny, connecting these two small towns a few times per day.
I've got a nice First Class compartment for the journey, which starts off behind this 54 year old Sulzer locomotive!
The complexity of our routeing through Romania results in our train needing four different locos, with some of these changes taking place in the middle of the night. Romania certainly has a colourful railway! π

Back to Europe now with Qatar Airways, with a few hours in Doha, before flying over Baghdad on the way back west...
By the way, who schedules a flight for 03:15? π

Riding a Talgo train in Kazakhstan is a horrible experience, how am I meant to sleep with all this noise and shaking?
Wish I was on an old Soviet carriage right now, this thing is absolutely awful! π
The 6am train to Tashkent, formed of one of Kazakhstan's newest Talgo trains. It's very early, and I've booked myself a bed to try and catch up on some sleep.
Let's hope that goes well! π
The beautiful newly refurbished station of Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
And does anyone know what the "Background" counter is meant to be? I asked the staff there and they had no idea either. π

And right after my overnight train, I'm getting on another one to Arys-2.
This is one of few trains in Kazakhstan to use Chinese carriages, with a densely packed "Hard Sleeper" interior, fitting 60 people per carriage! π¬
