Passing Donaldson's this morning, we fell into conversation with a young couple from Frankfurt-am-Main who were photographing the building. His grandfather had been a POW in the building & was grateful for the treatment he received for a serious eye injury sustained in combat.

That brings back happy memories of leading school trips to Berlin in the Cold War era & evenings at the Tegernseer Tönnchen when it was still in the Mommsenstraße.

Should have thought of that opportunity to thank the admirable Petroc Trelawney.
