History of Water Street

The History of Water Street Event will be on Wednesday, April 16th, from 10:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at SPARK East Innovation Center, 215 W. Michigan Ave. The goal of the event is to educate the public and potential developers about the site's history. The event will feature a panel discussion with Former City Manager Ed Koryzno (1996-2012), Former City Planner & Community & Economic Development Teresa Gillotti (2010-2014), and Jeremy McCallion, AKT, previous Washtenaw County Brownfield Planner (2007-2009) and Current City of Ypsilanti Environmental Consultant with AKT Peerless.

Brownfield Redevelopment and Water Street
The Brownfield Redevelopment and Water Street Event will be on Wednesday, April 23rd, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at SPARK East Innovation Center, 215 W. Michigan Ave. The goal is to share information about brownfield site development, state and federal laws, and market and financing realities. The panel discussion will include Scott Wasielewski, AKT Peerless, Katie Jones, City of Ypsilanti, and Nathan Vogt, Washtenaw County Brownfield Redevelopment Coordinator. 

The Future of Water Street 
The Future of Water Street will be on Thursday, May 1st, from 6:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. at the Freight House, 100 Market Place. The goal is to conceptualize future development for Water Street. City Manager Andrew Hellenga and Mayor Nicole Brown will share their vision for the future of Water Street, followed by a presentation from CWA that will recap the previous events and set the stage for participants to create outlines of the future development. Attendees will be asked to provide input on design expectations, limitations, and potential community benefits for future redevelopment proposals.

Ypsilanti City Council Meeting Highlights from February 4th

Ypsilanti proclaimed the month of February as Black History Month.

A presentation was made by Kat Layton and Justin Harper, members of the Human Relations Commission, discussing their 2024 Annual Report.

The Ypsilanti City Council adopted the 2024-2025 Goal-Setting Report as its budget priorities for FY 2025-2026 and directed the City Manager to consider the priorities during the preparation of the FY 2025-2026 budget, in accordance with Section 5.02 of the Ypsilanti City charter.

Authorized to dissolve the lease agreement between DTE, the City, and the Highland Cemetery and to allow all revenue produced by the lease ($8,000 annually)  to the Highland Cemetery.

A discussion occurred on City Boards & Commissions on policy and procedure updates done by the Clerks Department.
