A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nation’s people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else.

We mustn’t let this war do so.

Now that MAGA owns CNN and Warner Bros.

we are reminded that Dems sold Tik Tok out to appease Israel to put one of the few platforms where we can speak freely in GOP hands.

I am completely enraged by what Dems did to their base over our strong objection.

They did it to appease Israel.

With this fascist Paramount CBS CNN media conglomeration we’re all gonna need to get outside a lot more.

Orwellian control of info/media has begun. CBS, now CNN, acquired by Trump allies. More proof the goal is dictatorship/oligarchy.

Journalists at CNN are fearful for what's ahead if Paramount takes over - but want to just do the job

My conversation with @ailsachang on NPR's All Things Considered, coming up at 4.35/6.35p

Israel is a bully, hiding itself behind a veil of Bronze Age justifications.

The embassy staff thing may also be a ruse to convince Iran that the US means business, and maybe lure them into a first-strike strategy.

IMHO, it'll happen if it happens when it happens.

'Antifa' as an organization is a fake construct by the Conservatives, intended to focus people on some imagined enemy and engage in fear-mongering.

Antifa is simply the collective expression of individual political views AGAINST the kind of authoritarian rule that Conservatives want.

Pierre Poilievre is the enemy of Canada. Period. He is only in this for the power.

Oliver Kornetzke describes the rotten existence of Donald Trump.

"Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoulβ€”all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair.

Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn’t but has always beenβ€”arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshiped like gospel.

It is America’s shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn’t just lose its soulβ€”it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader.”

He's got his work cut out for him. The US has been meddling in Canadian politics for decades, including with CIA infiltration and dark money.

Riiiight. Trump is behaving like an ignorant madman, and making noises like an incipient dictator, but Canada is "to blame".

Pierre, honey, just fuck off.

Worse. Poilievre can't read the room, but he also doesn't realize the weather outside.

The Conservative approach is either naΓ―ve or is simply abject pandering to American imperialism and American-style hate-mongering.

Probably both. The US can no longer be trusted.
It's comforting to know that the vast majority of "other" Canadians find Trump and his politics repulsive.

How does it feel, when you're taken as short-term political props? All for a friggin' Happy Meal at the White House...

The men's team get to freely express support for Trump when other Olympic athletes were lambasted by the President for making guarded comments about domestic politics and others still demeaned because they were, well, women.

This is a double standard, and good people don't endorse hypocrisy.

Mr. Hoekstra should chew on these figures, and possibly try a less confrontational approach.

Zero-sum games don't work in international relations.

I hope someone gets these stats to Donald. They will drive him crazy. (Well, crazier.)

Donald Trump’s State of the Union this week drew an audience of 28 million television viewers.

Joe Biden’s 2024 State of the Union drew an audience of 32.2 million viewers.
