Agouti integrates environmental cues to regulate paternal behaviour - Nature Expression of agouti signalling protein in neurons in the medial preoptic area is increased by group housing and negatively associated with care, and overexpression of Agouti reduces care and enhances...

Why are some males caring toward infants while others are neglectful or abusive? I'm so pleased to share work that my colleagues and I @princeton.edu have just published @nature.com (an explanatory thread to follow!) (1/8)

Neuroscience has a species problem If neuroscience is serious about building general principles of brain function, cross-species dialogue must become a core organizing principle.

The biggest problem holding neuroscience back right now isn’t data or tools, thanks in large part to the BRAIN Initiative.

It’s fragmentation across species. I wrote this to hopefully spark discussion around an issue that can only be solved as a community👇

Behaviour without synapses: peptidergic signalling as a mode of behavioural coordination Nature Reviews Neuroscience - In this Journal Club, Arjen Boender describes a 2017 study that showed that diffusible peptidergic signals coordinate behaviour in Trichoplax adhaerens, a tiny marine...

Such fun and a real privilege to write this Journal Club article in @natrevneuro.nature.com. Introducing a fascinating creature and what it teaches us about behavioural coordination rdcu.be/eZnKn

The Sikkim mouse (Mus pahari) exhibits distinct spatial, circadian, and social behaviors compared to laboratory mice While the laboratory mouse is one of the most studied organisms on the planet, comparative research on the spatial and social structures of closely related Mus species remains limited. Here, we charac...

Yes! Totally agree - we need more comparative studies in mus species to understand variation in social behavior. This is a good start.

Very happy to share an expansion to the comparative gene editing toolkit: AAVs to reduce dopamine receptor levels that are functional in many rodent species. Fun collaboration with @malu-murugan.bsky.social, Elliott Albers and Frank Meye.

Maybe, but I think the key thing here is public pressure

This ‘accountability’ of the Dutch government only appeared after years of relentless investigation by stubborn MPs and building public pressure became untenable. Politicians will be politicians.

Today is the 145th anniversary of the birth of Nicolas Achucarro Lund.

In 2012 we launched Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, centred in the study of #glialcells in #health and #disease to honour his legacy.

Cool, I have validated D1 and D2, and have V1AR and D3 cloned as well. Eventually we’ll get everything CRISPRed :)

A Statement from the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology on Current Events | Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology (SBN) The Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology (SBN) is an interdisciplinary scientific organization dedicated to the study of hormonal processes and neuroendocrine systems that regulate behavior.

@sbn-bsky.bsky.social has released a statement on current events. SBN DEI comm, of which I'm chair, wrote this statement to be people-first focused on the human impacts. I want to thank Peg McCarthy & the Exec Comm in quickly approving the document w/ few edits. This is why SBN is my "home" society.
