Fantastic piece. The thoughtless glorification of the past is absolutely something that needs to be examined and pushed back on due to how it's been weaponized.

But I feel like another component that drives this phenomenon is the intentional worsening of current technologies. It works in tandem.

Uh.

I guess the ultimate point is "be kind and celebrate differences" which is really cliche. But also a lot of people seem incapable of that, so worth repeating.

Something to be said about constantly reminding yourself of these simple lessons throughout your life.

To be clear, this also isn't a judgement for those with mental architectures/cognitive structures that make this difficult/impossible.

That in itself is another benchmark for empathy; understanding that not everyone processes their internals the same way, or is incapable of keeping it internal.

Again, not a unique thought, others smarter than myself have expressed it with greater eloquence.

Just something I turn over in my mind every now and then.

The unsavory parts of the internal are also you to a degree, but it's still your choice whether you allow those acidic parts of thought rule that composite of interior world and external expression to define you.

Neither fully captures who you are. You are the choices you make every second.

This isn't me trying to say I'm super special or unique because of this; it's just part of the reality of being human.

And I think there's something beautiful that forming connections with other people involves this process of translating parts of yourself from mental noise to something concrete.

Every now and then, I see or hear something low-stakes and mundane, and it takes me a second to reel myself back from responding with something venomous for no good reason

Like there's a disconnect I feel from how people perceive me vs. how I define myself based on the internal architecture
