Before I even learned to read, I was obsessed with Richard Scarry books like Busy Town. I used to think stories with humans were boring. 😅

I loved all the animals having professions and owning shops. I wonder if that's what got me into Calico Critters and Animal Crossing. 😸

In Gravity's Fire, the magical look down on the non-magical as beneath them and the non-magical think the magical are arrogant bullies. Nix feels the divide spreads discrimination. While he can't change that for the whole school, he can with his friends from the two groups.

They call it a cat kicker toy and there's all kinds of variations in shape, size, design, etc.
