I think that this mutant constitutes a good model for the study of the coordination of plastid biogenesis and plant development and opens a lot of questions regarding the role of carotenoid derived signals in plant development.

In this study I claim that most of the developmental defects are explained by the alteration of hormone gradients in the apical meristems (particularly auxin) and later in the initial stages of lateral organ formation.

By modulating the accumulation of ACS1 precursors, we show its reversible and dynamic role in plant development. Gene expression data shows that most of the plastid-housekeeping genes are downregulated in ACS1-accumulating mutants, impacting plastid protein import and transcription/translation...

This paper is part of my PhD project, where I studied the role of a cis-carotenoid derived apocarotenoid signal (a.k.a. ACS1) in #plantdevelopment. There are several well-known apocarotenoid signals involved in plant development, strigolactone and abscisic acid being two of them.
