24% of Disabled people avoid using public transport due to accessibility issues.

4.7 million Disabled people live in poverty.

The politicians who make the above stats a reality are choosing to attack the Motability Scheme, instead of the system that locks us out of society.

Cambridge to make all IGCSE English literature exams open book Students already had the possibility of consulting drama texts in the exam but, in future, all Cambridge IGCSE literature in English papers will be open book, including prose

Again, iGCSEs - which aren't available to those in state schools - gain a possible advantage. While I don't disagree with open book (learning quotations is a waste of learning time), this just widens the gap and creates further inequality in an already unfair system.

Even when told about DLD lots of people don't seem to get what it is. And so we asked the experts, people with DLD (Developmental Language Disorder). One young person said DLD was 'trying to learn, but the words won't click.'
How do you explain DLD to others?

Finally, an article that at least touches on teaching quality and staff workload issues. Not that it suggests any viable alternatives to the current state of play. (And for 'colleges' in the headline, read 'universities', a telling choice of nomenclature.

Another email from an English teacher this morning about the appalling NATIONAL SCANDAL of GCSE English marking. They gave their permission to quote the email in full & I want to share it because it is so shocking. What are Ofqual & DfE doing about this?

Did you know ICE is holding a disabled advocate and whistleblower who helped shut down one of their detention centres?

Alma Bowman is a 58 year old woman from Georgia who spent 30 months in ICE custody during the first Trump regime.

When released she became a fearless advocate for detainees 🧡

I started teaching just after 7/7 in a mainly Muslim school.

At the time, Islamaphobia was running high.

I remember asking a Yr8 girl how it affected her and the nonchalantly delivered answer still chills:

β€œ*shrugs* We get spat on more now, I guess”

MORE. That’s what racism does. To young girls.

100% this. Can’t understand why these toxic campaigners choose to focus their energy and hatred towards a minority of people just trying to live their lives when it is cisgender men who are perpetrating violence against women on a daily basis. Solidarity with trans people now and always.
