I bought this at a CD resale shop in Beaumont, TX, around 1997. Could never have dreamed of where I've been since.

This quote from George Saunders just immediately became part of how I view writing and the world: “I started to understand writing as a kind of sacrament, by which we remind ourselves that the person we happen to be, at this moment, through habit, is not the limit of who we might become.”

After six months of waiting, I got my hearing aids today.

It will be interesting to take them out tonight before bed-- to hear the world take three steps back from me.

are we still on about em dashes and ai. imo human writers should just use the em dashes even harder. we should be out here pummeling out those em dashes like we're emily dickinson

That this guy has no idea HOW clueless he truly is truly astounding. That he has no idea what he is missing in life, and that he will miss it forever, absolutely, no getting an iota of it back--in this lifetime or any other--just completely gone--is the only solace one gets from watching his idiocy.

I've sent out 5 chapbooks and 3 full lengths. It can feel pretty bleak out there.

This is helpful to see. My various MS rejections haven't quite reached 3 digits. No acceptances yet.

As a teacher of undergraduate writing--writing workshops also teach young people how to respectfully give and gracefully receive criticism on work that means something to them, an invaluable skill in any line of work.

Every few pages, another bleak atrocity. It is really getting to me.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".
