Now I just want to automate this record-and-process in a little homelab setup where the image can be updated and displayed on a monitor in my room with each NOAA pass.

Grainy image of clouds overlaid on a colored image of the US.
You can record these beeps and ticks as a .WAV file and pass them through decoding software to get the image. It's a little grainy, but tools like SatDump can clean and contextualize it with overlays.
05.02.2025 04:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've been toying around with (distracting myself with) SDR a bit more recently. Here's a go at using it to capture NOAA-19 as it passed over Chicago tonight. This is an unencrypted weather satellite you can just grab images of the planet from!

Week 1 of our "hci engineering" class is underway. Had the privilege of subbing in for @pedrolopes.org and tried to bring his energy with live coding, circuits and demos π
This year, we are trying out teaching on the XIAO RP2350 and have new assignments on tinyML, SDR, and high-frequency sampling!

A fresh start on Bluesky: I am Shan-Yuan, a PhD candidate passionate about "haptics" (touch, texture, force), which we have mostly given up with touchscreens & VR/AR headsets. I re-envision and build new hardware that enables fun and dexterous computing interactions (hoping to start a new lab!).

Durable communities are built around consent, discovery, and safety not around manipulation, surveillance, and extraction.
I am recruiting a postdoc! The research emphasis is participatory design for decision-making interfaces. Check out the two project descriptions on my website. people.cs.uchicago.edu/~kalea/prosp...
The position is through UChicagoβs Data Science Institute. datascience.uchicago.edu/research/pos...
