World Seagrass Day 1 March 2023 Film om ålgräsforskning vid Institutionen för marina vetenskaper, Göteborgs universitet.Ålgräs och andra sjögräs är fröväxter som lever i havet. De fäster med rötter i mjuka bottnar och bildar täta ängar i grunda och kustnära havsområden. Ängarna är viktiga och produktiva livsmiljöer för många arter av växter och djur – även fåglar – och fungerar bland annat som uppväxtområden för fisk. Sjögräs finns i alla jordens hav men är hotade av klimatförändringar, övergödning, bryggbyggen och andra fysiska verksamheter vid våra kuster.

Successful sand-capping and #eelgrass restoration in NW #Sweden. Last spring we placed 8000 ton of sand on 1 ha seafloor to reduce sediment resuspension, and planted 80 000 shoots of eelgrass. Surveys last weeks showed great survival and growth with almost 900 000 shoots!
