"You sure? We got a call for help" he looks around, nose wrinkling at the forced cheeriness of the grotto.
"Yes" I raise my hand, pointing to Santa's inner room "everything's fine..."
as he walks away I whisper "... now"

I sit on the bed, a tightness in my throat. I wore safety pins in my smile tonight. He brushes his teeth. I want to be sick. I open the drawer and reach down until I feel the smooth of the picture. I don't need to look. A smile, kind eyes, hope, love, hands entwined. This is all I get now.

Since everybody is talking about those 4 "we'll diSrUpT publishing" douchebags, allow me to remind you that the publisher should pay the writer, not the other way round.

If you're paying to be (vanity) published, the publisher is not selling the book to the readers, they're selling the book to YOU.
