There are so many incredible titles on this list, but Iβm especially proud of YOUNG HAG by Isabel Greenberg, which I had the total joy of editing. If you havenβt read it, please do! Itβs funny, poignant, and just so unique and rad. Iβm so glad it exists and is getting this incredible recognition!! β¨

Letβs make books handout for kids, detailing various roles in making books; author, illustrator, editor, designer, marketing/publicity, librarians/booksellers/teachers and finally readers.
Two worksheets, βbe a writerβ with a writing mad lib, and βbe an illustratorβ with some drawing prompts.
Two more worksheets, βbe an editorβ with editorial marks to practice on some editable sentences, and βbe a cover designerβ with four books needing covers.
Two final handouts: βbe a librarian, bookseller or teacherβ with six kids and six books to match, and βbe a readerβ with preferences in genre and types of books to narrow your reading preferences to help find more books to enjoy.
Here is a handout I made for my kidβs class last week, when I went in to talk to them about making books. I Frankensteined together a bunch of art I already had to make it, and filled other stuff in. But it was a big hit, so Iβm sharing it here in case you know any kids interested in making books!

A SINGLE BRUTAL FATE is finally out in the world!! Lee has crafted such a twisting and pacey read here, and itβs so thrilling to see how this duology ends. Itβs been such a joy to get to work on, and a series I just love so much as both an editor and reader. Go check it out!!! π¦ββ¬π‘οΈβ¨π€

A graphic showing the cover of a SINGLE BRUTAL FATE. The cover shows Rat, a white non-binary teenager in a dark cloak, and Harker, a white trans boy of the same age with long, dark hair, hurrying down a dramatically lit stone stairway. Rat holds a ring of keys, and the two are surrounded by magic and wisps of spell fire.

Happy #MSWL Day! I only accept agented submissions, but wanted to get into the fun. I'm an editor over at Chronicle Books, and I would love to find more MG novels this yearβespecially ones that feature queer kiddos with big feelings, are a KNIVES OUT-style mystery, or use horror as metaphor! π³οΈβππ΅οΈπ

βNo live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met nearly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.β
Today, on Shirley Jacksonβs birthday, letβs all marvel at one of the greatest opening paragraphs ever written (from THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE)

We need to keep talking about how weird it is for people to think they should have a say in reading choices for anyone's kids but their own. You're not in charge of what other people's children eat or wear or when they go to bed. Why on earth would you get to choose what they read?
