i just find the word "practice" in itself doesn't mean anything on its own in the context of art, especially for anyone starting out. its much better to give someone a real goal to work towards instead of being written off as like. lazy for not "practicing" hard enough 😭

dont get me wrong "draw something" is far from ideal advice, but it is at least an attainable goal, whereas practice has none.

i have grown to despise the mindless oversimplification of "just practice" since there are so many things TO practice that the word itself is useless without adequate suffixes 😭

unprompted thought. i prefer "draw something" over "just practice." the latter feels condescending and aimless. practice what exactly? paint a ball with shading on it and never make any art? "draw SOMETHING" at least prompts you to figure out what to draw in the first place and to learn to draw it.

thats a little person you're raising, and this is beyond raising them sheltered. its making them grow up completely detached from reality because you just dont want to talk to them, and for all you know you could be keeping them from even knowing *themself* until they find some freedom in their 20s.
