Cities heat up more than the countryside, and it’s not just because there aren’t enough trees around. A mix of factors comes together to create what’s known as the Urban Heat Island effect.

⛰️Altitude
With increasing altitude ,less atmosphere is available to absorb UV radiation. With every 1000 m in altitude, UV levels increase by approximately 10 per cent.

❄️Surface reflection
Fresh snow is a particularly good reflector and almost doubles a person's UV exposure.

⏰Time of the day
UV exposure is higher during solar noon, when the sun is directly up in the sky.

📍Latitude
UV levels are higher closer to the equator.
