idc for the "evil"(? feels too strong) jor-el and lara, it actually grew on me bc it made for a very compelling story!

Oh wow, lots of discussion here about the political conflict in Superman (2025). While I see Israel/Palestine, I don't disagree with the Russia/Ukraine interpretation.

For me, that part of the movie's message can easily boil down to "War, genocide, and killing children is bad."

I just want to point out that is SAG-AFTRA had not made the deal with that one AI company they would not have been able to fight this.

A union fights labor practices by agreeing on contracts with companies, so should they break them there is legal leverage. They can't just say "you can't do that".

Good, this really fucking sucks if we allow this to be the norm. I'm very supportive of SAG-AFTRA taking this on.

Love how these people side with the multimillion dollar company who refused to sign an agreement re: A.I., then fired the actors who started a wildcat strike.

I have many thoughts but I’ll just say:

Having an AI NPC that “talks” to you with genAI is useless in the long run for a game. By keeping to 10-20 pre-written replies for a player, you keep them focused on, you know, playing the game they bought instead of chatting with an NPC.

"Why is SAG-AFTRA making deals with AI companies like Narrativ and Replica and Ethovox?! You're shaking hands with the devil! NO AI EVER!!!"

It's a strike. It's literally the definition of a strike.

It doesn't have to be union. It doesn't have to be "official".

These people don't understand that SAG-AFTRA members knowingly and willingly sign contracts affirming they won't work on any projects that haven't signed agreements with the union.

And they're still acting like know-it-alls.

Anti-Union sentiment is already rampant and destructive in this country. Unions, who brought us the 40 hour work week, safety laws, etc. Who have been undermined and demonized by politicians, bought by corporations, to undermined collective bargaining.

That's why this deeply effects me.

SAG-AFTRA is far from perfect.

Its internal politics range from frustrating to atrocious, the absorption of AFTRA left voice over in the lurch, their fees are exorbitant (but they'll tell you "DON'T YOU WANT TO INVEST IN YOUR CAREEEER?"), and their rules/bylaws need a complete revamping.
