Countrywide natural experiment links built environment to physical activity - Nature

A natural experiment involving relocating between cities in the US suggests moving to a more walkable city increases physical activity: “moving from a less to a more walkable city (25th to 75th percentile) increased walking by 1100 daily steps, on average. These changes hold across gender, age, BMI”

While earlier the reports came via sources, on February 15 Delhi Police in a press conference confirmed that some of the key evidence they have against Disha Ravi, a 21-year-old climate activist supporting farmers' protest and who has been arrested, comes from Google. The cops said that before the arrest they had asked for details from Google about a Google document that Disha allegedly edited and that the company complied.
Google has not publicly commented on the matter. India Today Tech has reached out to the company regarding the nature of its cooperation with Delhi Police and will update this story with a statement when received.
The details that Delhi Police got from Google are related to a "toolkit" -- a Google document -- through which the activists were allegedly co-ordinating their protest in support of agitating farmers. The details of the "toolkit" were tweeted by well-known environment activist Greta Thunberg. However, the tweet was later deleted.
"The Delhi Police after getting access to the toolkit doc approached Google and have got a reply for some of their queries in the case," a Delhi Police spokesperson said in a press conference. The cops allege that the Google document aka "the toolkit" was created by Disha Ravi and other activists with an aim to defame India.

We've implemented a system for notifying users when apps use the Play Integrity API. This will help users determine which apps are banning using a non-stock OS. Some of these will still work if they only enforce basic integrity rather than requiring a Google certified device running the stock OS.

It was a Friday night in February 2021. His wife called an advice nurse at their health care provider to schedule an emergency consultation for the next morning, by video because it was a Saturday and there was a pandemic going on. The nurse said to send photos so the doctor could review them in advance.
Mark’s wife grabbed her husband’s phone and texted a few high-quality close-ups of their son’s groin area to her iPhone so she could upload them to the health care provider’s messaging system. In one, Mark’s hand was visible, helping to better display the swelling. Mark and his wife gave no thought to the tech giants that made this quick capture and exchange of digital data possible, or what those giants might think of the images.
With help from the photos, the doctor diagnosed the issue and prescribed antibiotics, which quickly cleared it up. But the episode left Mark with a much larger problem, one that would cost him more than a decade of contacts, emails and photos, and make him the target of a police investigation. Mark, who asked to be identified only by his first name for fear of potential reputational harm, had been caught in an algorithmic net designed to snare people exchanging child sexual abuse material.

"I told Jorge that we knew, one hundred percent, without a doubt, that his phone was at the shooting scene," the police report on Knight's murder states. "Jorge gasped and said, 'What! This feels like a fricking nightmare!'" Molina began to cry, saying, "Oh my God, this is insane."
As it turns out, police did not know "one hundred percent, without a doubt, that his phone was at the shooting scene."
Police had arrested the wrong man based on location data obtained from Google and the fact that a white Honda was spotted at the crime scene. The case against Molina quickly fell apart, and he was released from jail six days later. Prosecutors never pursued charges against Molina, yet the highly publicized arrest cost him his job, his car, and his reputation.
"They threw him in a cell in one of the worst jails in the country even after they confirmed he had an alibi and let him rot for six days when they knew he didn't do this," Molina's attorney, Heather Hamel, told New Times.

'Witch Hunter Robin' (2002) was directed by the same director of Ergo Proxy, to my mind it develops several elements that he would refine with Ergo Proxy. The movie 'Vampire Hunter D' (2000) evokes a dark atmosphere that is similar to Ergo Proxy, 'Texhnolyze' (2003) + and 'Paranoia Agent' (2004) +
