Found this lovely deer skull during hunting season last year. I was going to do a nice euro mount with it but my parents' dogs chewed it up.

I decided to fix it up and I think it looks pretty damn good again! Cut a matching piece from a plastic skull, epoxied it, and painted it to match.

This is actually a companion to this artwork I did last year, "Sogno di Volare." Both artworks are essentially idealized self-portraits meant to capture the rapid oscillation I experience between confidence and anxiety, between aspirations bordering on fantasy and weight of reality and melancholia.

Look, someone's got to write a good sub-150 page polemic on Elon Musk sooner or later. Hitchens ain't around anymore to do it for us.

A species from the island country of Aruba! Males are blue. They're predominantly herbivorous, but also eat some insects. They exhibit selectivity in their plant consumption due to the presence of toxins in many plant species on the island!

I don't want to ramble all day and I know this is already too pretentious to keep anyone's interest so I'll leave it off there. Maybe I'll write an actual essay exploring these ideas in more detail later.

For now, I hope you can enjoy the artwork and accompanying music.

Meanwhile the almost ghostly choral chanting reflects the choir in Tin's composition, elegiac rather than triumphant, but still hinting at a sense of sublimity that elevates even the feelings of being confined, inhibited, and sorrowful to still be meaningful in themselves.

This song, like much of BSP's music, has an oppressed feeling, with the repeated line "want to be free" suggesting an endless struggle for a sense of release and contentment--while some of the lines ("featherlight, free and everlasting") linger as reminders of the dream depicted in the other art.

The new piece is paired with the song "Want To Be Free" by British Sea Power (though I remain torn between it and the adaptation used in Disco Elysium, "Burn, Baby, Burn").

The song's lyrics, adapted from a quote by Leonardo da Vinci, suggest humanity's cultural and technological progress, major themes of the Civilization series. But on a personal level I interpret it as referring to the pursuit of meaning and liberation, the things that make "your heart feel at home."
