Original art rescued & returned this past week by Murphy Anderson III: Gerhard's original painted colors (over a photocopy of my original cover b&w art) for TYRANTยฎ #4.

Never thought we'd ever see this againโ€”and it's thankfully here! Scanning from source materials for TYRANTยฎ crowdfunder in Feb.

If you've purchased a game from the Bully Pulpit Games store, it was shipped from Minnesota by the good people at the Atlas Games warehouse.

We absolutely stand in solidarity with our friends there in standing up to ICE, and we hope you will too.

Two panels from my Julius Chancer adventure comic, The Brambletye Box, both close-quarter views of occupants of cars speeding alongside each other and looking at each other; 1) Julius Chancer and Sir Alfred Catesby-Grey, looking somewhat perturbed, 2) a villainous looking group, two men in the front and a woman in a white suit and hat and holding a pistol in the back, smiling and grinning.

A solo rpg game is a great hobby: a pause from reality with dice rolling, creative problem solving, emergent storytelling, take on a roll of someone different, low cost, reason to doodle n draw, sometimes meditative, and fun your way.

A final illustration on the final page of my longest solo campaign so far.
In front in J-Box K a.k.a Kurt Mc Ivy a magic born (i.e. magic construct) a superhero in the small northern california town of Heathburg. The game ends with an event, the wedding of his parents Helen and chris and attended by family and friends.
His mother Helen plays a guitar with her husband as they sing a favorite son.

The game spans 4.5 sketchbooks and so I had to go back and find drawings of different characters, which took time, but was fun.

I finally finished my solo campaign and drew an final drawing featuring at least 15 characters. Started the game in May 2024, played off and on and learned a lot about how I like to play.

Tech Billionaires Want Us Dead
YouTube video by Taylor Lorenz Tech Billionaires Want Us Dead

The conclusions here are pretty close to some of the conclusions I've reached, many of which form the core of my work's approach to technology. That being: Technology isn't the problem, the people currently in control of it are the problem. Tech can and should improve life for all, not just a few.

As Lin mentions in this thread, we worked on this piece for seven months. I think every member of the team was involved in some way, whether editing or just making sure we were as fair and ethical in our reporting as possible. It's a lot of work. I think it's worth a dollar.

Screenshot of a data visualization titled โ€œThe Cost of American Exceptionalism,โ€ subtitled โ€œWhat would change if the U.S. matched the OECD average?โ€ The page explains that each card shows how outcomes would change if the U.S. matched the average of 31 peer democracies. Below, a section labeled โ€œEconomy & Inequalityโ€ displays eight cards comparing U.S. figures to OECD averages. Highlights include: +$19K per household per year in redistributed income and +$96K in redistributed wealth if the top 1% matched OECD shares; a 71% lower CEO-to-worker pay ratio (from 354ร— to 101ร—); 50 million more workers with union coverage; 26 million more people with health insurance; $2.1 trillion saved annually in healthcare spending; $691 less per person per year in prescription drug costs; and intergenerational economic mobility being twice as high. Each card shows the U.S. value alongside the OECD average.

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. ๐Ÿงต

It is literally the "ideas guy" applied to artistic practice. To believe that the art does not live in the act of creation but only the single moment of inspiration. That there was no art involved in the Sistine Chapel but merely the arrangement of The Creation of Adam.

Never trust the rates internally decided on for this industry - they rose out of grifters extorting their artists or in the best case out of extremely scant budgets in a universally undervalued artform. Look at the rates that are standard for other industries.

This type of financial exploitation has been going from literally the very start and it persists because ttrpg workers are, apologies, easy marks. There's no industry unions, there's no intergenerational experience, there's no public knowledge.

Someone eventually needs to do a deep-dive on black-and-white benefit comics from the 90s (Not It!). There are reams of otherwise-unpublished art floating around in these, like this wild-ass Mitch O'Connell piece from "Images of Omaha The Cat Dancer: A Benefit For Reed Waller"...

Cliches and personality cults are super easy for most nerds to fall into. We want to be accepted and loved, typically have some neurodivergencies that make it harder to be able to gauge true intents or motives, weโ€™re taught by society to trust the masks people wear.

This shows why you shouldnโ€™t

Some stories are difficult not just because of the effort it takes to tell them, but because of the subject matter. This story is both.

Seven months, six Rascals, five creators, and a dozen drafts, revisions, and versions later... We have a story that is necessary, heartbreaking, and important.
