Trump is really testing the principle that "everything is legal in New Jersey"...

Yeah I think this is clear. It is going to be framed as "more of everything to bring down electricity rates" but in practice what we are going to see is massive amounts of new natural gas usage. Certainly here in New Jersey, the new governor has basically already said it.

Many such cases. NIMBYs in Princeton turned the application to build single family homes on the Lanwin Tract into a 6-year ordeal at the Planning Board. Eventually the developer gave up and sold the land to the town as open space. Another victory for the NIMBYs.

The snow was quite bad this season, but it also felt very cold.
I think it was not actually unusually cold relative to the long-term-average, but compared to recent mild winters, it did feel cold.

Nice anecdote in that article from Asbury Park Press about how the Italy squad trained in Central NJ for the USA World Cup in 1994. Apparently *Roberto Baggio* called into a sporting goods store in Bound Brook to buy some fishing supplies and nobody even recognized who he was! πŸ˜‚

Rutgers chosen as 'base camp' by FIFA World Cup qualifier Rutgers is one of the New Jersey sites that will host training camp and meetings for a team in the FIFA World Cup. It's been years in the making.

The Senegal national soccer team will train at Rutgers University during the World Cup. New Brunswick Mayor James Cahill welcomed the squad to the area.
This is a really good team, with some great players. I hope we can see a bit of them. www.app.com/story/sports...

After the winter we have had, it is truly astounding to me that folks out west think it has been *too hot*...

These are the options I'm seeing. I wouldn't want one of those old Nissan Leafs, because the batteries in them are terrible. I might consider that Ford Focus with 60,000 miles, but I'd have to go to Richmond VA to get it.

63 hp, range of 62 miles on a good day...I could not drive that.

Mitsubishi i-MiEV mentioned, lol!

I would like to visit Morgantown purely to ride this thing. And I'm sure I wouldn't be the first person to visit Morgantown for that reason!

They specifically asked us if we had a car as well.
I had been hoping to take the bus home. In practice, my wife couldn't even walk, so, it was a bad idea.

Everybody wants to be like Rutgers now. Hauling around on shuttle buses, yeeha.

A bit sus to buy a house for a million dollars and then rent it back to the owner for $10 a year. Nobody has ever offered me that deal!!

09.03.2026 16:20 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I like Dan Benson and I kinda trust him on this, but it is definitely the government putting its thumb on the scale in support of one private employer, and in general those kinds of deals are sus. I hope that absolutely nobody in Mercer County government has any financial ties to Rider.

As somebody who grew up with Boy George and Grace Jones on the TV regularly, I am bemused about where this mania for gender conformity has come from.

"housing, warehouses or an AI data center" are of course the Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse for NJ suburbanites...

Mercer County Executive Dan Benson says it was necessary to spend $10 million of county taxpayer money to buy land and buildings from private Rider University, because if Rider went bust, the land might be redeveloped as "housing, warehouses or an AI data center"... www.nj.com/education/20...

I'm quite impressed that the hospital let them leave with the baby if they didn't have a car there!

I think it's probably helpful that you contacted them to let them know that the cost is a barrier for a lot of potential attendees.

09.03.2026 13:20 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

A guy I know who is a regular attendee, and who was even on the board at NJ Bike Walk Coalition for a while, says it's all about money, or more specifically, NJBWC doesn't have any money, so they look to the Bike Summit as a major fundraiser for their year-round activities.

It's still quite a lot, right?
I dunno, am I maybe being Mr. Scrooge here? I think that over a hundred bucks to attend a nonprofit summit is quite a lot. It is a good conference to be fair, a lot of good speakers. I can't believe I ever paid that much to attend, but I have gone in the past.
