I am thoroughly unimpressed by this career move for Fulop. I think he is wasted in this position and they won't appreciate him either.

They also couldn't find a single one out of the 8 million people who actually live in NYC to be mayor, etc etc 😉
I am surprised that Fulop took this position though. It kinda sucks.

It's understandable that a guy who has a book to sell about the history of policing in Camden would like us to think deeply about policing in Camden, but unless there are some substantive allegations, then frankly I'm quite happy to take the win that loads of people aren't getting RIP-ed any more.

If it was shown that the county force was acting in a discriminatory way against city residents, then that would be a problem. But is that really the case? Conversely, city residents are probably quite happy that the police force actually does police work and that there are many fewer murders.

Also, the concept of a county police force seems fine to me. The City of Camden is quite small (72,000 people), disproportionately low-income, and with a history of corruption in the police. It seems reasonable that policing could be organized by a larger entity with more resources.

I'm sure his book is valuable but his critiques seem vague and off-base. "Residents and visitors are under near-ubiquitous surveillance and subjected to all of the big-data technology." What does this mean? What is "all the big-data technology"? Is that the same as "The Google"?

My 11-year-old daughter is listening to it, and I, an old white guy, am cringing on her behalf...

It really depends on what you mean by 'city', right? SF clearly has more traditional urbanism than LA, if that's how you're evaluating it?

That Philly skyline, it never gets old. My 5-yo son was trying to guess which tower was tallest, and I actually don't know, is it still One Liberty Place? There have been other big ones built more recently...

I assume that the point of publicizing cases like this is to try to increase the fear factor for the many many drivers who are no doubt using similar scams on a daily basis...
