A zooted man

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

Had to take Newt to the emergency vet today after he knocked over a glass jar and cut his back foot in the glass. He has two lacerations but they patched him up and sent us home with pain meds and antibiotics so he’s gunna be okay and we will bring him back to get recheck in a week 💚

It was a rough back tardigrade and it has these plates on its back and live on lichen. They don’t swim so this little guy was just moving his legs around trying to grab things to climb in the water for the slide he was put in to view under microscope. They can breathe just fine underwater though!

I watched a live stream of a tardigrade just hanging out. Less than half a millimeter long and existing in an entirely different world. It helps to remember how beautiful and complex our earth is when the world feels like too much to carry sometimes.
