Peninsula Birds

A few North Pembrokeshire birds over the last week or so. Merlin at St Davids Head, Hen Harrier and Great Egret at Dowrog, Russian White-fronted Goose at Penberi, Firecrest and Siberian Chiffchaff at Aberbach. ##birdingWales

This bruiser turned up locally this last couple of weeks. North Pembrokeshire. Wonder if its come down from the north. It's a beast!

The Brown Shrike at St Davids today - a belter and a bit of a show off. Found it whilst driving down to Porthclais to look for Yellow-browed Warblers. First for Wales if accepted. Hope it sticks around. #birdingWales

Long-tailed Skua marauding around Goodwick yesterday, including at the back of Tesco! Arctic Skua, Sabines Gull, 5 species of Tern including White-winged and a Little Gull. Mad. #birdingWales

3 Spotted Redshank, Ruff, Green Sandpiper & 2 Ringed Plover on Dowrog Pool today. A site created in 2024 that has attracted 14 species of wader in the last 4 weeks, including Pectoral & Wood Sandpiper, Greenshank LRP, Whimbrel, Black-tailed Godwit and Little Stint. #birdingWales

Cuckoo on Dowrog Common, Whimbrel in a few locations, Yellowhammer at Brawdy, Grasshopper Warbler at Treleddyn. St Davids area. First Swift at Garn Fawr yesterday. #birdingWales

Snow Goose at Tretio, St Davids this afternoon was a surprise. Feral I would think but the first I've seen in these parts. #birdingWales

Had a Hooded Crow in that same field on the exact same date last year Paul.

Looking at ducks through the heat haze this weekend - Ring Necked at Ivors Pond and a Garganey at Trefeiddan, St Davids. A surprise early-ish Whitethroat singing on Garn Fawr today. #Pembrokeshire ##birdingWales

One of 12 Chough at St Justinians this evening. A Firecrest in the blackthorn on the coast path and a Great Northern Diver flew down Ramsey Sound. #Pembrokeshire #birdingwales

Stiff northelies bought in a nice flock of 25 House Martin, 20 Sand Martin & 4 Swallow to Penberi Pond this morning. 2 Sandwich Tern battling past Newgale were my first of the year. #Pembrokeshire #birdingWales

Both the Green-winged Teal and Pallid Harrier seen yesterday evening. The pair over-wintering within earshot of the cathedral bells at St Davids. The Harrier seen for 10 seconds as it bombed in to roost, so the pic is from November. ##birdingWales

My 2nd Winter Gull Survey this evening - this one at Porth Lysgi, St Davids. 370 Herring Gulls with a handful of Lesser and Great Black-backed. Cracking spot but it was baltic! ##birdingWales

Winter Gull Survey at Whitesands- 280 BH Gulls, 3 Mediterranean and a few Herring. The Goosander drifting past was a surprise. ##birdingWales

Black Redstart at Aberfelin Beach, Trefin, Pembrokeshire first thing. Probably one of the three that turned up in early November. ##birdingWales
