Taking a leisurely stroll through my vinyl record collection to share a few of my favourite Jamaican tunes and trivia, just like I used to do a few years ago in the House of Reggae podcast... https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/houseofreggae

7" of The Blackstones - Babylon Trap Them on Derrick label. The label doesn't credit The Blackstones but instead a 'D. Brown'. After it was released in 1977 The Blackstones complained to the record label and a subsequent pressing of the 7" was credited to 'Blackstones'.

Miscredited record labels Pt. 143.

This 7" isn't by Dennis Brown, but instead it's long-running UK vocal harmony specialists The Blackstones doing a great cover version of The Meditations Babylon Trap Them in 1977...

Each one teach one! 🫡

There are plenty of names in your thread that are new to me, so I've been enjoying hearing some new discoveries.

Absolute epic thread! I've listened to a few of them this evening and looking forward to going through it all tomorrow. Thanks for doing this.

Riddim Mix #31 - Real Rock: Pad Anthony, Earl 16, Johnny Osbourne, Don Carlos, Mother Liza

And finally, here is a mix on this version of Real Rock with a couple more records added. Although such is the confusing world of reggae music that every record in this mix has a different producer listed on its label!

And this great 7" by Pad Anthony is on the same Channel One recording of Real Rock...

12" of Johnny Osbourne & Papa Tullo - Lend Me A Chopper on Star Light Records label. Released in 1983. Produced by Prince Jammy.

This mighty 12" by Johnny Osbourne and Papa Tullo is on my favourite version of the legendary Real Rock rhythm.

Recorded at Channel One and produced by Prince Jammy, the drums explode and scatter and the bass rolls deep...

Nice pile of 7s there.👌

Ah I think I've got the one above Upsetters. Is that Heavy Duty (a Joe Gibbs label)?

08.03.2026 10:44 — 👍 3    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Is this another guess the label? 😁

I can get the top 4...

1. Channel One Disco Mix
2. Iron Side Disc
3. Attack
4. High Note

After that I'm not so sure until what I presume is Upsetters at the bottom...

For this week I've picked out this great 7" by David Jahson on the Ali Baba rhythm. Even though it didn't make the top 10, it did inspire a short trend in barber tunes...

Ah OK, looking at the sleeves on discogs, it seems they left off "Presents Dub From The Roots" from the bottom half of the sleeve.

I don't have Surrounded by the Dreads, but have listened to it online. There were certainly better Tubby LPs released at that time, including as you say "Grass Roots" and also "Dub Master", which again I presume means Dub From The Roots.

Likewise, it's her only LP from the mid 70s that I'm aware of. I wouldn't take all the titles and labels as 100% accurate in these charts. Typos and alternate labels/names are quite common.

Yes, I think that's probably right.

And here is the 7" chart from the same week.

Big Youth remains at No. 1 for the second week, holding off the new entry by Clive Hunt's Lizard at No. 2 with the chilled out Satta I. Max Romeo, Mighty Diamonds and U Roy are the big climbers...

Yea his records were mainly in the early 80s. I have a couple of his singles from that time that I like. Will keep a look out for this LP.
