MEETING COMICS #30: NO RACCOONS IN HELL PART ONE, $9, 5½" x 5½", 40 pgs. Andrew Neal has been working on Meeting Comics for quite some time. They started off as office-related gag comics with a group of snarky characters. As they've progressed, they've had longer story arcs and side stories for various characters. It's like a comedic soap opera. One of the breakout characters is Val Cannon, a not-so-shy woman with a very punk background. Andrew has done a few comics featuring young'n'punk Val solving household mysteries with her weirdo, oversexed housemates. In this issue the housemates notice that after a party, their pet raccoon "Ranger Rick" is missing. The only clues on who the thieves are are on a few Polaroids of people they don't know from the party. The investigation leads Val and her off/on again girlfriend Tori down a road of bad T-shirts, sexual exploits, goths, and more sexual exploits. The artwork is good and cartoony, and Andrew Neal is, of course, always funny. Great little issue. My only complaint is not realizing it was "part one" and it ends on a cliff hanger. -Rick V. Some panels from no raccoons in hell. Val asks Tori as Tori reads a zine called Scum Slurp, "anything interesting in there?" There's a close up of the page Tori is reading and it is a comic of a monkey running in a zigzag. Tori says "it's just a monkey running in a zigzag!"
