what i learned is that if you mute all of the words & tags associated with the genre of content instagram has put you in a category to receive, it will keep showing you posts from that genre... just the ones that are completely unlabeled, untagged...

WHICH MEANS... OFTEN MORE EXTREME & FRINGE?

the other good news is that i did just have to completely delete instagram from my phone because i simply had to stop seeing the flood of west hollywood fitness & diet culture miasma that i couldn't stop the algorithm from showing me despite doing everything in my power to stop it? 🫠

the three things i miss most are:

- my gym
- my weighted blanket
- my linen sheets

and like, my doctors, i guess. but mostly those three things. but we are a third of the way done already. so i must simply continue.

unfortunately now that the device is in my hands it is so tempting to get kirby air riders... this work trip has been so incredible and life changing but... horribly challenging mentally in a medical way.

there's just something grounding about a video's game... i feel like i am in college a little.

yeah even when it started falling down the stairs like. well. it still has a thesis. it still had a reason to exist. it still closes like... a solid B+ percentage grade of the loops it opened. the tone and pacing and structure is a little nutter butters but like. i can't say she doesn't cohere.

like one of my favorite subtle features is that the AI of other pokemon is not paused while you are conversations or story events. everyone else is still going about their day.

which means sometimes pokemon just wander into conversations. things happen in the background at comedic moments.

again it remains really funny that the highest praise i have of pokopia is "it is a game that lets you play" as if this needs to be a revolutionary concept but. but like.

everything's fun and games until you have a sip of a "sour cherry oat milk cold brew" and briefly see heaven.

my other update about LA is that the winds are starting and there is a coffee place near our apartment that has ten dollars coffee but it was both so good we had to like pause and reflect on life and savor it because it was so good.

i just cannot believe how long your leash is in pokopia. within a "chapter" of a zone you are truly just allowed to get lost doing something stupid. i just made my own accidental escort quest trying to backtrack through a lava cavern to free an animal i wanted closer to my base out of sequence.

anyway that's it. i must confess i was very high last night when i started playing so i named my ditto "splendid" when i tried to think of what i, a trainer, would name my ditto that was beloved to me so.

and this isn't. conjecture. it's putting this narrative foot forward pretty brazenly. they make it abundantly clear you are an orphan blob standing at the end of the world, giving it another chance one patch of grass at a time, and that this work is easier if you make friends and care for people.

this emotion is so palpably intentionally central to the experience. it's an interesting response to animal crossing new horizons in the like, intervening six years since that game came out. i like how much pokopia stresses the needs of others above your own. you are their steward, not their keeper.

i am really glad children have a game about being a little lonely thing in a big and scary world with the feeling that everything is wrong and isn't like it's supposed to be like this but that you have the power to learn and observe and make it a little better for the things that call it home.

i cannot really overstate how artistically riveting pokopia is. i have not played a video game that felt so comfortable with letting the player loose to explore and discovery with the freedom of an orphan child in the woods in a long time. it is so special, and eerie, and striking, and sweet.

okay yeah pokopia is kind of just peak what if a game just left you alone to play and rebuild a lonely world.

i was weak.

i have had a long week and crave the dark embrace of toys. i am running on fumes. i want to place cubes.

would you think less of me if i bought a switchoo just for pokopia.

i love frimomen and asterian but hxvoc has this quality of a guy who has seen shit. this man has been injured. he is literally missing an arm. you can make him so vulnerable it's scary and it's scary that i'm the only one who knows this about him.

okay... new job exciting... but i finally have weekend energy to write music... hxvoc... come to me... my little meow meow...

no the facial hair is hilariously vanilla but nobody but the like four total old man vieras i have met use it. we spot each other in an instance and immediately stare at each other every time. the only mods are just customize+ bone wiggling to make him wider.
