BA have seized the opportunity to generate a lot of buzz & fanfare. Only time will tell if BA will be spending money on LGW. Would be awesome to see investment & more longhaul destinations.

Reading the statement, reads like it’s just one new B787 for Gatwick. Presumably LGW will more at some point, but will they be new from Boeing or hand-me-downs from Heathrow.

There’s quite a few not-so-obvious bits that do link to other parts of the UK.

One example: Several Asian airlines codeshare with the likes of Great Western and other TOCs to carry their passengers onwards from London. Hong Kong to Cardiff βœ… Singapore to Newquay βœ…

While MH are adding a new daily flight, it looks like QR are dropping a flight. Seen QR do this on a number of routes in recent years as they boost frequency elsewhere or start new routes.

In Thailand it’s celebrated as a secular "Festival of Happiness" rather than a religious holiday - focused on fun, shopping & decorations.

Thai people love its joyful atmosphere, sparkling lights and malls decorated with Christmas trees & Santa Claus appearing at events.

Quite like a morning departure from Asia to Doha, with one or two naps over the course of the flight - think of it it as a cheeky afternoon nap rather than β€˜a sleep because you are trying to sync your body clock’. Trick is not to think, at any point, what time is at your point of departure.

Going from Asia, I tend not to feel jet lagged or out of sync if taking the overnight flight (getting 7 or so hours of sleep) into Doha. Then a hot & refreshing shower in the lounge, an espresso or two, followed by a morning departure to Europe.

β€˜Mostly business’ - the passenger & destination profile has changed a lot over the years, now a lot more leisure passengers. They can fly from an airport that’s closer to home and one that’s hassle-free.

KLM operates several flights a day to AMS flying people onwards around the globe.

Last time we used Heathrow Express we used a railcard & booked in advance… just Β£13.30 for two of us. Which means that’s considerably cheaper than just one of us going on the Elizabeth Line.

Really not a fan of those overnight flights between UK / Europe and Doha - try my best to avoid them. Did overnight Madrid to Doha earlier this year as it was the only option. Delayed departure and an early arrival meant I got even less time to sleep.

Privelege Club members get an hour of free WiFi on non-Starlink planes… except that option isn’t available on the leased Virgin Australia planes (don’t know about the leased Cathay planes). Another example of how the offering can vary from one plane to another.

Varies from airline to airline. American, for example, have fewer affected than first thought… because they’ve been slow to do a software update.

Remember Pret’s Avios trial? Wonder what they’ll trial next.

Formula 1 tech used to improve train Wi-Fi on GWR The 60 day pilot will use signals from mobile phone masts and satellites in space to create a more reliable connection.

A new UK-first pilot scheme is aiming to create fast & more reliable train WiFi, using technology originally developed for Formula 1 cars.

DoT has secured £41m to introduce LEO satellite connectivity on all mainline trains by 2030, so let's hope it's a success & gets rolled out quickly. 🀞

Common for Air Canada flights into Frankfurt to park at a remote stand - @yyzbound.bsky.social has parked his plane there on a few occasions. (Looks like he’s trimmed his posts so can’t link to his photos.)

Yes, you’ll get QR’s β€œaward-winning service” but won’t get Starlink on that flight.

Whilst QR are loudly promoting the fact that it’s now installed on all of their B777 fleet… it’s missing one important detail - it’s not being installed on these leased planes.

The white livery in photo #1 is what they’ve applied to the Cathay Pacific & Virgin Australia leased planes.

A better option would be for your bank to make the new card available to use now on Apple & Google Pay - means you can still go about your day as you normally would.

Also, most airlines allow you to pool your checked-in luggage allowance... providing all passengers on the PNR check in together.

Check in separately and if one of you is overweight you can't make use of the other person's un-used allowance.

Wasn’t aware Starlink satellites are coming down. Are these at end-of-life or are there issues with them?
