New Psychology Residents Walk in the Communities They Will Serve

We tried something new this year as part of our orientation…

Feeling grateful to Brown’s Swearer Center and to all the community partners who shared their work with us! πŸ™ What a great introduction to Providence for our Brown psychology residents! 😊

It is for people who have recently completed their PhD or MD in a related field of study.

I wouldn’t spend time reiterating numbers in your internship statements, but rather use the space to answer the questions to convey who you are as a person, clinician, and researcher - and to articulate your goals for training. We want to get you know who YOU are and where you’re going! Good luck. πŸ™‚

I’m only peripherally involved in this as a PI of another T32 in our department. But I think this is broadly the focus. I’m sure you could reach out to the contact with more questions!

It's a bit off-cycle, but you never know who might be looking and when... Brown has a new T32 postdoctoral fellowship in child health equity! Applications are open now and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. More details can be found in the link below:

Oh, I know. I’ve been PI on many NIH grants, including one that just got a non-competing award. I’m saying that it’s hard for everyone to track trends from the outside, when Reporter is behind.

22.07.2025 19:41 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It's hard to even know where to look, because we have gotten a few non-competing NOAs in the last few weeks, and none of them are appearing in the Reporter.

As a T32 PI responsible for supporting 5 fellows, I have not had a solid night's sleep in months. So I understand completely.

14.07.2025 13:59 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

True, but it complicates & slows things - and is relevant across all T32s. They wouldn’t have been funded without meaningfully addressing the prior requirements, so all now have added scrutiny. As PI of an otherwise uncontroversial T32, I still had to revise our most recent RPPR for β€œcompliance.”

13.07.2025 12:59 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The T32s are all tricky, because the language of the prior NOFOs explicitly required the awards to address β€œdiversifying the workforce,” with explicit plans and metrics. Now that such an effort is contrary to the EOs, literally every T32 needs to be reworked, to ensure it is β€œin compliance.”

I’ll have to take a deeper dive and report back… I remember this meeting so well. I was in my 2nd year of grad school at CU, and we got to attend for free in exchange for volunteering to work the β€œcheck in” desk for the meeting. I was star struck! 🀩

We’re a consortium that includes a VA, and it’s more important that someone provide a meaningful narrative for why they want to train at a VA than it is that they have prior VA experience. This question also comes up in our APCS Q&A video.

Things are feeling especially hard & unpredictable right now, but one thing’s for certain - it’s the eve of our annual internship orientation. Taking a moment to enjoy that same β€œback to school” excitement that I get each year, when we welcome & launch our next cohort of psychology residents!

And these are just the tangible costs…

β€œβ€¦having a loved one in prison or jail is estimated to cost families across the country nearly $350 billion each year β€” about four times the amount the federal government estimates it costs taxpayers annually to operate the nation's prisons and jails.”

Yeah, mine have always gone to SEPs or NIMH standing committees like SERV or the long-defunct ITMA. I’ve also had funding from NCCIH, and I think their policy was to triage *all* of their grants through IC SEPs?
