Rugg & Renoult review the cognitive neuroscience of episodic memory representations. Active representations must have a causal link to a past event to count as a memory, the basis for this linkage is the reinstatement framework. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Effects of cortical thickness, volume, and memory performance on age differences in neural reinstatement of scene information
Abstract. The strength of neural reinstatement, a correlate of episodic memory retrieval, reportedly reflects the amount and fidelity of mnemonic content a
Strikingly, we also found that cortical volume fully mediated the commonly observed association between age and reinstatement in these regions, meaning differences in reinstatement were explained by cortical volume, independently of age.

I'm thrilled that my first first-author paper in @fnim-lab.bsky.social is now out!
We found that whole-brain cortical volume predicted the strength of neural reinstatement of scene information in the parahippocampal and medial place areas (PPA & MPA in the figure below). (1/2)
