New paper alert! π¨ We show that age-related neural dedifferentiation in scene-selective cortex is tied to changes in eye movements. Using simultaneous fMRI + eye-tracking, we found that younger adultsβ fixations covary with scene specificity, but this link weakens with age.

Effects of cortical thickness, volume, and memory performance on age differences in neural reinstatement of scene information
Abstract. The strength of neural reinstatement, a correlate of episodic memory retrieval, reportedly reflects the amount and fidelity of mnemonic content a
Strikingly, we also found that cortical volume fully mediated the commonly observed association between age and reinstatement in these regions, meaning differences in reinstatement were explained by cortical volume, independently of age.
