It's one of many things about Dread where I felt like I was playing a different game to everyone. Control issues aside, whenever I read something about 'that great Metroid style' I just can't comprehend what that is. Take literal Samus out of it a screenshot and I couldn't pick it out of a lineup.

Conversations I have always found alien (hehehe) about Metroid are the ones in praise of its world and style. Great 16-bit soundtracks aside I think it is some of the most unremarkable sci-fi worlds and style I've ever seen from a major publisher.

The original Red Dead Redemption, one of the greatest games of all time, was just released on iOS and Android. Published by Netflix, entirely un-buyable.

Way too early to tell what they're going to do with these gaming studios; maybe they just want to get a foot in the console/Steam space and it'll be business as usual but it doesn't seem out of the realm of the possibility that the next Rocksteady game is something you need Netflix to play.

When Into The Breach was the hot indie game and everyone said 'man this would be great on phones' - Netflix published it on phones. But it was subscription only, which it remains to this day. Nine years later, playing it on mobile is exclusively locked to Netflix members.

Netflix has ushured some great games onto mobile, a somewhat underrated aspect of their business. One of the last names in mobile gaming bringing really acclaimed games of various sizes onto their platform. But the big BUT here is that they do not sell them. It is subscription or bust.
