Then "Carlo" finally reveals his "survival" to everyone, stating he was absent due to a long time of recovery, and discloses Pino's identity theft.

No one except Geppetto. He knows. He's too attached to Carlo, secretly keeping his corpse in a trunk until he manages to "revive" him as something between human and doll.
